Factory built 302s have a 4" bore with a 3" stroke.

You mean a "283" block I think. I seem to remember back in the day, (before Z28's), rodders used a 327 block w/283 crank, and called it a "301". Chevy caught on to it and called it a "302".
BTW, I had a 70 Z28, 360hp 350cu. the original LT1. w/4.10 gears, 4spd. I considered it to be quick, (faster than 302's), but I doubt very much it would hang with a ZR1.

The 'original hot rod (pre 62)' 301 was a 283 bored .125" (which could only be done on *very* early 283 blocks, where cylinder wall thickness allowed it). A 'Chevrolet original' 302 was a 4" bore and 3" stroke. In other words, it was a 4" bore block (327 or 350) with the shorter stroke crank.
