Any body know the story on this car? It was running as fast as some of the C6 ZR-1's

There is an admiral blue LPE 385 running around TX, I almost bought it when it was for sale in Ft Worth. Then I saw it at Corey's with a broken cam and related damage; kinda glad I passed on it...but maybe it is all better now?

It lives in the Houston area ... There was an earlier thread but it's gone now.
Correction - the thread is on the ZR-1 forum ...

Wow, really laying down A LOT of rubber at the start.
At the Mojave Mile they really didn't want you to do that.
Wonder if it makes much of a difference with top speed.

Nice numbers for the AB ZR-1. My '94 AB ZR-1 stocker ran 155.5 mph at the Mojave Mile last year.

Hey Ted, nice to meet you at the Mojave Mile this year. Your car was running pretty strong out there.

Hey Matt

This was Kevin's car from Texas. It's the 385 LPE stroker that John L. won the first Vette vs Viper challenge, against John Hennessey.
As the story goes ( from what I heard) JL was smoke the hell out of JH Viper. The LT5 lost a cam or cam timing, they got it back together for more rounds and still kept on winning with it.

Kevin had it for sell on ebay and I was ready to buy it, when he called me and said the head gasket let go. I got scared and did not buy the car.... I wish I would have still today.

Haha, I should have asked you to start with you are like a ZR1 encyclopedia . That car is a real mover for a 385, Must be putting close to 550 to the tires to run that kind of MPH in the mile.

My Zr1 needs a stroker, I regret not buying yours.

Not quite - Sanjay's 415 did mid 180s and he is making about 570 rwhp. I would guess about 525 rwhp for that 385.

Is a well tuned 415 able to teach the present C6 ZR1 a lesson?

Mine did 170 at the texas mile a couple of times, but I have the 4:10 gears. Sanjay, Bob Hall, and W i l l have all done 180+

My car is stock displacement with some vette doctors stuff z-industries tune watson headers and cams and makes 410 to the wheels. I have had a blast with my ZR-1 for the past 10 years. 3 trips to the drags 12.30 BEST PASS. 3 Open road races 2 at Big Bend and the last roadrunner ( this was the funnest ) 118 miles of driving at a tech speed of 140 and ~200 miles of driving at a tech speed of 168 mph. 200 + miles. Incredible. I feel priveledged and honored to have been able to do that AND 2 Texas Miles. 170 MPH best pass.

I'm basically done with the car, I never drive it anymore. It still runs perfect even after all that abuse and has 60 k miles. I took it to a road course once. Harris Hill Road in Austin. I built a cool looking diffuser for it and did the coil over thing myself on it with some really nice maintenance stuff. My dad and I drove it from Texas to Vegas twice and had unforgettable time...Now it lives on a lift in covered storage, I don't know what to do with it next. I would like to sell it, but am not willing to suffer through the process especially with all that I've done with it. I'll tell you one thing though, I don't have any regrets about owning a ZR-1 and meeting all of you.

The launch does make a difference in the standing mile event.

I always see cool cars at the mile and this time was no different. That C4Z was one of my favorites...

I remember also when that car was up for sale. I had just purchased my 95 several weeks before otherwise I would have bought it. I was looking and looking for a AB and couldn't find one until I bought a black one Sweet ride & fast
