Default Electrical under console

What are the two wires with black connector on them (90' Corvette - L98)
Under the cup holders with the flip lid.

I just noticed this is under ZR1 discussion when I am talking about a C4 90' with L98....Oh...well....

It is Manual Transmission......the ole 6 speed ZF S6-40
I am not sure but will check some more. One of the wires was compressed (completely flatened out) by the cup holder (the one with the screw). I fixed that but am now wondering where the connector fits. It was just laying flat like you see it when I opened up the console. I get 12 volts between the two wires with key on.

Thanks Daryll...appreciate you looking at it. My issue described in the first post is for a 90' Corvette with L98

To make this more credible for ZR1 discussion

Daryll.......On my 91' ZR1......I have 4 Intake valves down at RPM machine shop as we speak taking off .007 to .016 from the valve stems for the LT5. So all valve clearances now are very close ready for Pete's camshaft grinds

As *I* recall, isn't there a switched 12V with ground provided under our consoles for accessories? IE: radar detectors, phones etc? Maybe I'm smoking my own shorts here.

Does it plug into the VSS on top of the transmission? Really nothing should be under the console im thinking. Great news on the valves.

I now recall something like that also.......and this seems to be like a plug. You can plug something into that black plug. I think you are on to something ittlfly

There are three female orange plugs that come out under the console cover on the 91' ZR1 as shown. Easily excessible under the rear dome release button...not like the two wires in question which are nearly under the cub holders on the 90' (L98).

Thank you

It was just laying loose like you see it. Except now I had to go back in because the black connector was interferring with that console lid that closes over cup holders. I looked for a connector on top of transmission also just in case and did not find anything. Maybe it is a cup heater

I might then look a bit further around the radio (have to take front piece off) to see if someone hot wired a plug of sorts. But if they wanted to do that, I would think they could just go behind the cigarette lighter to grab 12 volts. That plug could have been brought up through the slot in the cup holder at one time.

If I find some nice hot wire job, I may just have me an Aux connector on a 90'

Concur it may be a blessing in disguise. If so you could strip it and add a 12V power connector (Powerport) into the console like mine which is always useful.

Perhaps this is a quiz? That's the "valet key" connector for a '90MY ZR-1. Wire ID's are correct also!

90MY ZR1? but this is a 90' with L98

Do all 90' (L98) with standard 6 speed ZF S6-40 transmissions have this connector sitting under the cup holders? Where do the wires go? Where does the connector mount? What is the purpose on a 90' (L98)?

I did not find this connector on a 90' with automatic transmisison.
I found this on a 90' (L98) with 6 speed transmission (ZF S6-40) which also happens to be the same transmission in a 91' ZR1 (LT5).

I've never had a reason to check BUT there's only 4 service part #'s for a '90 MY IP harness. MT with manual air, MT with auto air, AT with manual air and AT with auto air. Those are "service" harnesses! I wouldn't have thought production harnesses would have been the same but it seems maybe likely.

I'm surprised this has never surfaced earlier. Maybe it has but I've never seen mention of it!

Check your fuse panel in this car, you should have maybe some "empty" fuse sockets. INJ 2 might be empty and if you went to the trouble to check the AUX you might find FP 2 empty.

INJ 1 has 20 amp and INJ 2 has 10 amp. The two leads to the connector are around 12v when key is on....key off voltage is zero. So...that connector is hot.

I am now guessing that this is part of an original wire harness and I should just button it up

That is what WVZR-1 is suggesting also. Which I ask what is a power key connector doing on a 90' (L98)

But then WVZR-1 is suggesting wire harnesses might be for both options and some plugs just not used in some applications which makes sense also

Thanks guys as this has been a strange day fer sure but always a learning experience
