Default new 1992 ZR1

Anybody ever see the new 1992 ZR1 up at MacMulkin? I picked up a car there and they had an unsold one that had 2 miles on it in their upstairs garage. I have a pic if anyone is interested...

I stand corrected I was told elsewhere it was a 90. I was just repeating what I was told.

Either way, the car behind it was a 1970 454 car with like 2000 miles on it if I recall correctly.

The one behind it looks like a 2 tone 81 or 82.

after the way I identified the other one, I'm not going argue!

At the time, I was taking pics and picking up my new one at the same time. That probably explains where my mind was.

Sorry, I just love vettes! Especially the 80-82 body lines, and I only argue with my wife!

In this photo I see a wooden door, a fire ext, and a table next to a real nice chrome bumper C3.

In this photo behind the ZR-1, I see a column but no door, no fire ex, no table, and no chrome bumper!

I wonder if this is a 70 or 71? How many miles on this one?

While the 70 only had the 390HP 454, the 71 454 had the LS6 option at 425HP (there was also the 71 365HP 454). A low mileage original 71 LS6 is BIG bucks.

My last hot rod was a 72 El Camino (dubbed "Miss Elly" by my kids): a 427 conversion, white with black racing stripe in the middle of the hood, black interior. I had a helluva time making the tires stick, and "Jesus take the wheel(!)" if I had to turn! It was strictly a "straight line" car...But! It did turn a LOT of heads; especially with the solid lifter cam in that BBC.

And, you're right...It would make a nice stable mate for the Z!

I didn't think the LS6 was ever available in a corvette. Also, in 71 they had the first of many emissions controls start to kick in which lowered the HP from 390 to 365 for the LS5 454. If there is a higher HP engine in it; would it have to have been a dealer option?

No, the LS6 was indeed offered in the 1971 Corvette. It was the 1970 announced but never installed LS7 that didn't make it. There were 188 LS6 Corvettes produced in 1971. There were even 12 ZR2s sold in 1971. These included heavier duty components suitable for racing, similar to the ZR1 for the small block in the same year.

The reduction in HP from 1970 to 1971 was not technically due to emissions controls but due to a reduction in compression ratios. Your association with emissions might be because the government wanted to allow the gasoline producers time to meet the upcoming requirements for catalytic converters in 1975.

1971 is also an interesting year in that it is the only year that GM released both net and gross ratings for their cars. The LS6 was rated at 425HP gross, but only 325HP net. The base Corvette, for comparison, was rated 270/210 gross/net respectively.
