He was running 10.9s on that track. He has time slips at 10.8s. 60 foots in the 1.5s on Hoosier DRs.

All 3 of those big inch LT5s at the Crown Point Corvette Challenge (last Sunday) were built on AES closed deck short blocks, and assembled and tuned by Pete and Bob G (see them over on the ZR-1 Net Registry)

No they weren't.
I bought a new 67 and I bought a new 69. There was mass Corvette mourning of the great mid-year styling right off the bat. The shark was and still is a styling atrocity.
The ZR1 was a total flop. Even though the C5 is newer it is vastly superior in EVERY respect except the seat.

The C5 was a better performer in some respects but not vastly superior by any stretch of the imagination. My daughter had a '99 so I'm very familiar with a C5 and all of their warts. She autocrossed it a few times and I could tell it just wasn't going to hold up. She switched to my ZR-1 so it pulled double duty on race day, we beat the crap out of it and it just keeps begging for more. She got $6000 for trade-in...it was a good car but my feelings were "good riddance" because it had a multitude of problems and I was sick of working on it. I changed the oil pressure sender so many times, I could do it in less than an hour which as I'm sure you know requires removal of the intake manifold/fuel rail.
A simple gear change and it certainly has the HP to run the speed necessary to do it...the valvetrain would have never survived the continuous high RPM operation and Chevy knows it. DOHC engines have very low lift (compared to high performance two-valve engines) making them perfect for sustained high RPM operation. There are cam designs and springs that would make the two-valve engine live but then it wouldn't be a stock engine.

When I see non ZR-1 owners here in the C4 ZR-1 Discussion, all I can say it that says it all.
I don't go anywhere looking around on any other posts or sites because I don't care.
I love my C4 ZR-1 no matter what, for what it was and what is still is; regardless of date and time or technological changes or 0-60 or quarter mile times. If you have not owned one then you don't know why we have a passion for these cars. I would never criticize the earlier model Corvettes and love them all and so what if they don't have our technology, power, handling, or speed. I would love to have every generation in my stable if I could. Great for us that we can buy and enjoy these great cars that have made more history that most Corvette models ever will.
It does not matter in the US or foreign soil, the LT5 is a piece of art to everyone. My C4 ZR-1 drew more attention that any of the wide variety of car as this car show as a testament of the mystique of the "Heart of the Beast". Who needs stinkin' pushrods!

Every generation Corvette is very special in my eye's. And I've owned C2 through C6's. Enjoyed each and every one of them.

I have hundreds of races under my belt at the track and on the street and I can say I have NEVER seen a stock C4 ZR1 outrun a stock C5Z06 with the 405hp package.
NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And until I see it, it wont happen.
I have better things to do than debate this.
8388 since you have hundreds of races under your belt post a video of your stock C4 ZR1 our running a stock 405hp C5ZO6 and i'll be a believer.
Until then, its all hot air under the crammed C4 hood!
Im waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many of these races have you seen? Let's be honest here......
If these cars did race at the track then what are the chances they were both stock?
I have driven both cars in stock trim and I believe it would be all driver in the 1/4 mile. If we are talking about braking and cornering then obviously the C5.

The problem is you cant understand a c4 ZR1 less you have owned one and driven it, or better yet were a teenager in the early 90's like I was when the ZR1 was the king. There are things about a car that cant be summed up by preference numbers alone. I LOVE my ZR1, I have plenty of faster cars, but thats just not the point. It is truly a grate car, and with headers, B&B and a X-pipe it's the best sounding car I have ever owned and I have owned allot of cars.
For instance this morning when I walked into my garage I had a choice, drive my 873 rwhp Viper or my ZR1... Well I'm rolling the KOTH
The Reaction my ZR1 gets from people my age is almost amassing, Comments like "is that a real ZR1", "man I have never seen one of them is person" , "i remember reading all about them when I was a kid" happen nearly every time I drive it. The younger generation for the most part will never understand. I would not own a C5 if it was given to me, I do how ever like the C6's, but if I was going to add another Corvette, I really think it would be a white C4 ZR1 to park next to my AB one.

Honestly I have seen one stock 405hp c4 ZR1 vs a 405hp stock c5 zo6 and the C5 won. It was at the 1/4 mile track but it was a win. It is very tough to get these two vehicles together for testing because most are modded or it is impossible to locate two for a true full shoot out comparison which a majority of people do not care about.

Back in 2004 I went to a 2 day street car challenge in El Paso in my ZR1 and in a field of 70+ cars in the "V8 no power adder class" I finished 2nd place behind a Drag suspension LS1 heads/cam TA that ran a 11.87@111 to my 12.15@114. I took down heads/cam C5's car after car.
This is at 5000ft+ DA , and you should have herd the things the LS1 and LS6 boys were saying about my Bolt on old ZR1 with a totally stock motor.
edit: here is my post about it from back in 2004
