Default ZR-1 Fuel Pumps

Fuel pumps failed on my ZR-1. What are the latest and great part numbers? Pumps and Strainers.

Thanks,
D.

OK - cool deal. I snagged some Airtex E3240 pumps at my local parts store so I can get it up and running. I may go ahead and order a couple of those GM pumps also.

Thanks,
D.

I put Airtx in my 91 a week ago. I plan to purchase some Delco pumps and keep them on standby. Hoping to get some miles out of the Airtex BUT they're cheap pumps and you usually get what you pay for.

Fingers crossed!

Do the Bosch "rotary" pumps require cutting a "relief" into the plastic holders?

I am thinking the same things. Do those 454 pumps fit directly? No changes, etc?

Yes, as per my writeup on the ZR1.net forum. Not a big deal, I've been running them for around 10k miles now, no complaints.

About 10 years ago I did the Suburban 2 pump install. It was easy and worked like a dream. Thanks ZR-1 CF members!

Who ever went to the trouble to find that replacement fit did many of us a big favor. You saved me hundreds over the factory assembly.

Regardless... that means somebody tool the time to compare pumps or already had knowledge about similarities in fuel pumps. I am pretty sure I would not have discovered it on my own.

I wasn't referring to the 454 pumps. They DO fit correctly. It was the Bosch that is too large in diameter to fit in the holders, from what I saw in a "how to" thread on the ZR-1.Net..

Brett, you asked "Do the Bosch "rotary" pumps require cutting a "relief" into the plastic holders? "

That's what my writeup was about. Fitting the Bosch turbine pumps that you asked about, into the stock housings.

That's what I remembered. I wasn't sure who did the write-up when I posted it. I may try these and the "relief" method for my backup unit.

That was back when I got chastised for talking poorly about the "Partsladi" on ebay. I didn't shed any tears when they went belly-up.

Are those Bosch pumps in some way superior to the GM version? I changed mine back in the mid-nineties with stock pumps. they've been working fine ever since.

I followed VetteMed's writeup and installed the Bosch pumps in mine and after about 5k miles I am still pleased with them. The install was fairly easy and straightforward too.

If I recall correctly -- Factory airtex replacement is 3940. you can get them at autozone.

Another possibility is airtex 3270. they have a higher gallon per minute flow and a single 3270 was also used on the buick grand national.

Both will fit in the holster they are housed in. when you install them make sure all the hose clamps are very tight.

on my 1991 zr1 the secondary pump went out. I replaced it with a 3270. One of the hose clamps came loose that was attached on the secondary pump and when I was accelerating hard it tripped a code 55 too lean condition and went into limp home mode. I had to take the pumps out which was not a terribly hard job, and put it back on.

Much cheaper than buying through the dealer, back in the day the dealer wanted to sell you the entire apparatus that included the pumps for 1250 bucks. -- this was 1998, and I bought these at autozone for 55 bucks each, back then. worked like a champ.

heres my 2cents worth!
My son's 92'Z pumps went south and with all the help here on the forum we figured it out that it was the primary. Well he got on the internet and found on that one web site eb-y a seller for a complete unit both pumps and the sender and best offer he paid $150 bucks and that included delivery. well it arrived in a DELPHI box and still had all the tags on it. took about 4 minutes to get the old one out and about an hour to get the new one in took no time once i turned the pictures around (real brain fart). Thats been over a year no with now problems did check the sender to see if it was set right and all still works well. shop around. GOOD LUCK.
