lingenfelter 1992
Was the Lingenfelter 368 sold through Chevrolet, and added to the window sticker? Or were these conversions completed after the car was bought? I saw one for sale w/ 35k miles... 368, gears, baer, hurst, wheels, borla, etc.
Are they as cool/fast/desirable as the black widow cars?
Dunno if it is cooler than having one as sold from Chevrolet.

These are cool, very fast and very desirable. There are only 8 black widows done and can't compare a Lingenfelter to a black widow. Two different animals
If you want a car that is significant and very undervalued, buy a ZR-1. Drive a ZR-1 and you will understand

The downside of the BW's is that they are the first of the LT'5 s to be modified, therefore the mods lack some of the refinements that are available today.
With the same basic stock shortblock, tuners like Marc H., and Pete P. are achieving anywhere from 500 to 550+hp.,with stock bottom end, porting and cams.
The Lingenfelter 368 is not a stock shortblock. Bigger liners, bigger pistons, higher compression, but with a stock crank. And has much, or all of the top-end work previously mentioned. Because of that, the Lingenfelter should be much quicker.
It also has enhanced collector value, because anything that the late, great, John Lingenfelter tuned has a sentimental value that cannot be duplicated.
JMHO, I'd prefer the Lingenfelter for superior performance, and leave the "Black Widows" to the collectors.

Two different animals entirely. The "Black Widows" are rare cars, therefore sought after by collectors. They vary in performance according to mods, but are essentially stock block LT5's, with top end mods. Mostly rated at 475hp at the crank.

Thanks everyone. I take it that the Lingenfelter paperwork would show a date when the work was done, so you could determine if he was involved with it. What is the average appraisal on one?

But modded cars, Lingenfelters in particular, are the some of the best deals. Cars that guys sunk $40, $50, $60K into are now going for cheap.

All LPE 368 cars are not equal. The list of options was long for the motor work not to mention all the stuff you could do at both ends of the motor plus all the other component work as mentioned earlier
I have met people that "claim" to have had much more work on their cars than was actually done. Everyone got an itemized bill for the work that was done along with the dyno results from Grahm.

I agree, a lot of cars are rep'd as LPE cars because someone put a Lingenfelter part on it. My 1990 383 LSV had the Lingenfelter Super Vette Badging, all the paperwork and Dyno from Graham. It was a rocket ship. I look forward to owning another one, however the current production does a good job of squeezing out performance. There was a lot more meat left on the bone in the late 80's early 90's.
