Little update:

I will get getting a B&B x-pipe to replace the B&B reasonator and re-dyno and see what happens....

It dynoed 434rwhp/470rwtq before, and I am "hoping" for another 10rwhp.

Please post the results. I'll bet that you're going to see more than a 10 rwhp gain.
And when you pull off that resonator, take a close look inside both ends and you will wonder why they make a full 3" system, with the installation and weight issues involved, and use a resonator that necks down to a 2" restriction at both ends.......WTF?.

E46 m3: 333 hp 262 lbs-ft torque 3415 curb weight
1996 Corvette m6 : 330 hp 340 lbs-ft torque 3239 curb weight

of course e.t. isnt important because there are a billion variables that can affect it more than mph but both cars run stock mph of 103-107 depending on magazine youtube videos or what else.

This past saturday i had the opportunity to line up my stock m3 vs my friends 96 LT4 several times. its almost a drivers race and we switched cars but the M still pulled away slight until speeds over 100 mph but the m was a car was already a length ahead.

surely the 80 lbs extra torque and lighter curb weight would mean death for the m? Maybe it was the gospel station I had on the radio? The hand of god helping the little m go faster ?

the m needs an x pipe

That statement is nonsensical. Hp is a value calculated from torque.

.
C'mon, you have a torque multiplier on your low speed handpiece, It's just that little gearset, don't you remember?

Hey I'm a dentist too, just trying knock some sense into my colleague here.

I thought the statement was pretty eloquent too.

See Girly Black and Decker handheld electric screwdriver that puts out out a ton of torque with a little 3 volt wimpy battery...GEARS.

Are you posting in the right thread? The only thing I learnt was that your M3 needs to loose some weight as its a bit chunky.

You also forgot to mention that your "M" needs a 1st gear of 4.23:1, and a 2nd gear of 2.53:1. But saying that this thread wasnt about street racing nor your E46.

Looky what arrived in the mail. Looking forward to replacing the reasonator, and see what gains.

While we're waiting for him to put that X pipe on I've got to tell you that those little Bimmers with the twin turbo sixes are nasty. I ran up against one on my sunday drive a while back. To make a long story short, he handed me my a**. I couldn't believe it, he walked away from my ZR-1 like I had the power key off. It was a tweaked 135i Coupe, with a Dinan tune on it.
After that I did a little homework and went down to the BMW dealer. Test drove an E90 335i 4 door Sedan. I was so impressed I bought one, telling the wife, "hey, look, 25-28 mpg." I didn't mention that with less than a $500 tune on it, it will pull around 400hp@ 7K, and run in the high elevens . I love my little grocery getter.

It's enough to make an old geezer put his Drag Radials away and become a waxer.

Maybe its time to add a few more mods. I have driven a 335 and I was impressed with the fit and finish, but not blown away with the performance.

To each there own. Enjoy your new car!

X-pipe wont be for a few weeks. Life is busy....

had one of those Bimmer leave me from an 80 roll like I hit reverse, it was a bad kill. COuple miles up the road he destroyed a newer Porsche Turbo.
Car moved out.

It's heavier for a reason First it doesnt feel like a piece of cheese bolted to 4 wheels. I'll stop there.

See below for what I was trying to show.

Read the quote above and compare m3 and LT4 weight. hp. and torque. please explain.

Torque is not everything. im not saying its not important it obviously is but its not the end all. All torque motors are fail in my book They're for tow trucks and dump trucks.

Maybe you should start a new thread "All torque motors are fail in my book".

This thread started out in regards to gains from an x-pipe.

Let's face it your M3 is geared because it doesnt make torque. Isnt your 1st gear around 15:4:1 which says it all.

I'll check what my John Deere is when I get home, and get back to you. You might have it beat!

Here is the inside of the B&B reasonator. What a difference from the x-pipe.

I am going on a whime in saying I am going to pick up some power, and its going to be louder! I will start a new thread with the gains....

Can you measure the Center to center spacing on that Resonator. I think I remember it being 4" but wanted to verify

Thanks

Just funnin ya,

Rick
My neighbore across the street has an SL55 AMG little two seater. Its quick. It would give a stock Z a run for it's money. I beat her out of the hole and pulled away from her every time. But she's crazier than I am. Thats why she has to blow in a breathalizer to start the car. And every 15 minutes or it will shut off.

Interesting!
My B&B Resonator looks quite different inside than yours.
Does anyone know if there are two different styles?
The inside of mine had swirls on the inside and I seem to recall less baffling.
Of course my X pipe did not arrive by Saturday, after having again removed the stock exhaust, so back went the B&B Resonator with straight pipes to the end, as we wanted to take the car out Sunday.
Very anxiuos to see the results of the switch, but now wonder if my Resonator is less restrictive than the one in your pictures, meaning you will see more of a gain.
At any rate if mine is as polished as yours, it will look too good not to install it.
Thanks!

Marty
