Default Driver Side Exhaust Manifold Stud

Hello,

Currently repairing oil leaks from the exhaust manifold studs. Passenger side was straight forward both removal and install.

Please advise on the method to reinstall the driver side exhaust manifold stud. Should I remove the headers, lift the engine? Running out of ideas.

Please help

Haven't had to do this yet on my '91. I did, however, put 3" Stainless Works headers on it about a year ago. The studs are pretty easy to reach from underneath with the headers removed.. As you know, the AIR system (mine is now removed) as well as the steering linkage on the drivers side, make it a real chore to get to this one!

Good luck and let us know how you do!

You need:
1) Beer (or wine if you squat to pee)
2) Patience
3) A few of your favorite curse words
4) A few spare tools (or #1) to throw aimlessly while yelling #3
5) Some neosporin and band aids for the cuts you will probably get
6) Some Motrin to ease the pain from contorting your hands to get to the studs

Oh yeah, and some varying size socket extensions and universal joint.

Here's a view of drivers side with Stainless Headers installed. The stud its pretty easy to work with if you remove the header and work from underneath. It's a total bear from top side with header installed (probably almost impossible!).

All,

Thank you for the replies. After trying various socket and wrench combinations, I am convinced that removal of the driver side exhaust manifold is the only option.
The studs have been soaked with kroil, my plan is to-remove this weekend.
