Default 315/35-15 tires -- What's left?

Been searching for a pair of 315/35-17 tires and all that appears to be left is the Sumitomo HTR or either the NITTO NT555 G2 or NT555 EP Goodyear still makes a 315/35 but it's almost twice the price of the others.

It looks like the NITTO NT555 G2 is a new tire that was released in December but so far no 275/40-17 version of that model. Both of the NT555 tires are shown as being 12.6" wide compared to the Sumi at 11.6" wide.

Ideas? Suggestions??

I drive since many years the Vredestein and am very satisfied. Good grip in wet and dry and high durability.

Here is a Vredestein vs Goodyear, I have also had good luck with the Nitto

Goodyear and Nitto 555

That's why a lot are moving up to bigger rims/tires. I'm going 18/19 with 285/345 Michelins. Many more choices if you move up to 18's or more.

That certainly would make it easier but I have two sets of A-Molds in 17x9.5 and 11x17 wheels. Hard enough to buy autocross slicks every year

What's your goal? What are you looking for in tires?

I have the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's on my Z. I think they are outstanding for the driving I do. Last year we hit torrential rain on the way to Indy. The water on the freeway would have sent the Z sideways with the other tires I've run. I had no problem dealing with the rain running the GS-D3's. Cornering in HPDE events has been excellent also.

I have Mickey Thompson Street Comp tires and I like them better than the GoodYear GSD3 I had.
Also reasonably priced at Summit Racing. Quiet, steering response is quick, and the tires really stick on the off ramps.

Whatever you do don't buy the Sumi's the tread wear is horrible and as stated a significantly smaller footprint

I had heard that about the poor treadwear with the Sumi's. Tread width on their 315/35 is an inch narrower than other brands.

I decided to go with the NITTO NT555 EP's from Discount Tire Direct. Just under $650 for a pair of 275/40's and a pair of 315/35's delivered to me.

I put Sumi 315's onto my car last summer and, while I like the way they drive on the street, I'm shocked by how fast they disappear (without doing great big smokey burnouts by the way)! I figure two seasons and they'll be done. Not sure if I'll be going back to them (in their defence, they were cheap), or whether I'll step up to something more expensive and a lot more durable. Maybe I keep on retiring my car??? Auto-X seems to kick the crap outta them very, very quickly! Even my tire dealer was surprised by the shallowness of their original tread depth and the rate of wear. Thoughts anyone???

What else can one expect when a "Bank" makes a tire? Kidding aside, they do wear fast so in reality they aren't any better on your wallet than a longer wearing tire.

I have run them at speed ( 156 average for 90 miles and brand new ) and once warmed up they felt great starting with 37 lbs PSI cold.

I have noticed once they go quiet ( won't squeal anymore) the amount of traction really drops off. Going to stay with the Nittos unless I upgrade wheel size to 18+.

I have Nitto NT05'S on my car in stock sizes. They seem to be a great tire on the track as well as when beating on the old LT5 a bit. They do not work well when cold or are that great in the rain.

My Corvette is a 3rd car so I only drive it on nicer days

GSD3's probably my favorite tire ever.

I bought my '91 Z a month ago and just replaced 1999 BFG Comp/Ta's with Nitto 555 Ex ZR's. It's unfair to compare 17 year old BFG's to new Nittos, but the difference is night and day. It feels like a new car as far as handling, road noise, smoothness, cornering, coming off the line and overall feel. With a "300" tread rating, they should last awhile too. And to top it off, as stated above by c4cruiser, the total cost was $643.36 shipped to me in NJ. I'm happy!

The price must have come down on those Nittos. They use to be $800+ wherever you looked.

Like c4cruiser, I bought them from Discount Tire Direct. I've been a Tire Rack customer for decades, but Discount Tire Direct will definitely be in the mix for new tires for my cars in the future.

I needed tires for general street use. I have two sets of slicks for autocross (A6's) and track days (R6's) so that takes care of off-road fun.

I received my NITTO NT555's last week and the local Discount Tire shop got them mounted and balanced. The latest version of these tires in (NT555 G2) 275/40-17 are now out but because they are new, some places are just out of stock in that size.

My '02 coupe has Goodyear F1 Gs-D3's on it and they are a very good street tire and seem to work very well on wet pavement. That tire was available from DTD in both 275/40-17 and the 315/35-17 but the total cost would have been around $1200 delivered

I went with the Goodyears for the street. The price was painful, but they sure are great. I have a second set of wheels with Nittos for track days. So far, so good.

Has anyone tried the Nitto NT01s? I only have 40,000 miles on the 93 so don't worry about wearing them out. In fact I need replacements for my 7 year old Kumho V700s. Also a DOT legal slightly treaded low TW (rating of 50) tire. The NT01 is also available in the 275/315 combo.

I am a bit torn between that and the new Nitto 555 G2, which now is available in both sizes.

Edit: I ordered the G2s in 275/315 sizes and will let others know how I like them.
