Default 1991 ZR-1 or 2001 Z06

Currently have a 01 Z06 have the opportunity to possibly purchase a 1991 ZR-1 White with charcoal interior 14k miles for around $22-23k. I'm fairly new to the Corvettes but ever since the ZR-1 came out I have wanted one. Granted I was only a teen back then but there has always been a certain mystique with the ZR-1. I'm also thinking the value of these amazing machines is on the incline, please tell me if I'm wrong. I'm torn please share some input I understand you all may be biased being I'm in the ZR-1 room......forgot to add wife would no way let me have both.

I believe pricing of the C5 and C4 are still in a decline, the ZR-1 much less steep, but neither are not going up right now.

Buy her jewelry and flowers and keep all 3; her and both Vettes. I guess I'm lucky......

Ask yourself this, how many C5 Z06s did you see last month? How many ZR-1s have you seen in the last 10 including at any shows? Get the ZR-1,if you don't like sell it for what you paid for it.

I drove a 2002 Z06 and a 1993 ZR-1 back to back one day. I bought a
ZR-1. It just felt felt like much more substantial car, not a go kart.
U sit IN a ZR, and ON a Z06. No question the Z06 is a fun track car, but for long legged runs I took the 32 valves. Finally, I think the C4 body, especially the wide body ZR is way more classic and pretty looking than the C5 kind of "blob" look.

Have to agree with the cockpit feel of a C4.....I sat in a 04 Z06 for the first time about a month ago and you can feel the difference...Never got a chance to drive one yet though....

^^John your Z is super nice man I also don't think you are ready to sell so I'd reconsider. If you do not need the cash don't sell it you will regret it from what I am sensing..............I'm going to look at this this afternoon and hopefully take a test drive.

I owned and tracked an 02Z from 2005 to last year with over 1k mi of seat time at Pacific Raceways and The Ridge up in the PNW. I had owned a 92ZR1 briefly back in the day so no tracking comparisons to offer. I was one of the 20yr olds drooling over the ZR1 when it came out and have always wanted another. That said, driving them both is two completely different animals. What I am seeing on these forums are most with ZR1's that drive the C5Z say the prefer the C4ZR1 and the same goes for the C5Z crowd. For me, if I am going to track at all then its C5Z. For going on trips and playing on back roads, either one works. But anyone here saying that stock for stock that the C4ZR is a better overall performer is kidding themselves.

As for me, I love my new to me 93 ZR-1, all stock and Bloomington Gold certified. It is a real gem and fun to drive.

Hey Eric thanks for the PMs.....I guess eventually I will make up my mind ...Lol...

My 91 Z with the mods I have is a great performer......The throttle response is great and Pete did a great job at porting the top end....

Guess I have to drive the C5Z to understand..

Thnx...

No problem. Your in a tougher position since yours is modded. That changes everything.

So I went and looked at it I wasn't too happy. I'm picky when it comes to my cars I know every scratch knick ding anything on my cars I wash them weekly, you get the idea. I know it's old but the car has sat out for at least the past 5-6 months through the NE winter which wasnt too bad but still bugs me. The weather strips weren't that bad so it was definitely garage kept until that point, the paint looks good no fading on the interior although a small tear on drivers side bolster. It started a little rough has a slight throttle hesitation, definitely needs some freshening up underneath i.e. tie rods ball joints, the brakes are horrible too everything felt loose. I honestly could not tell if it had full power the green light was lit but I did t see any dash lights informing me it was on, if there is one I didn't see it. I was really surprised at how much it would need with only 14k but again I understand it a C4 that unfortunately wasn't well maintained. I'm going to kick it around but in really leaning on keeping my Z06. That's again for all the info and suggestions guys.

Yeah No good....

My feeling is after a few blocks of driving you know if a car is solid or not......You just get that feeling.....

Funny thing about some dealers is they just don't get it......If you felt the hesitation on throttle don't you think they did also?

If the brakes and suspension felt shaky than so did the dealer trying to sell it.....23K-24K asking price? That car should be spot on....

Hey at least you checked it out and have something to compare it to if you choose to look at another ZR-1....

Good luck, keep us posted..

I would go with a ZR-1 with C5-Z06 Brakes

Installation of Wilwood Rotors and C4 to C5-Z06 Conversion
