Anyone out there been able to fit a 17x11 rim with a backspace of 7.96 on the rear of an 85 Vette?

Wont fit but I have seen GS wheels on a lowered BASE COUPE.

Ok. Thanks. I have 17x9.5 with a backspace 7.45 on it now. The 17x11 I want has 7.97. That's a .52 difference. By theory if I used a 1/2" or a 1" spacer they should fit right?

You will do much better here and on nearly all forums if you work with "offsets" vs. "back-spacing" - The "offset" is cast on nearly all wheels.

Your 7.45 on a 9.5 is a 56, your 7.97 on an 11 is 50. It's generally thought that a ZR-1 36mm offset(7.42 BS) will fit '87 and earlier cars but it's certainly a "car to car" possibility. There can be issues with bolt heads, liners etc.

You have a wheel there now that you say fits BUT really doesn't when "fitment" into the wheel-house etc is considered. A 19mm(3/4) is generally the accepted to use with a 56mm 9.5 on an early car. Some use 1", both are available in the adapter style.

To get your 50mm to fit an early car you'll need a "pass-through" which isn't an issue but you need to determine a specific requirement for your car. A 14mm "pass-through" is I believe possible maintaining hub-centric features to both the hub and the newer wheel. Less than 14mm I don't believe can be done and maintain the features required for hub-centric fitment. 14mm might actually be a stretch

I use 16mm pass-through with longer studs and I have maintained the hub-centric features, Z51Jeff has the same pass-through but maybe a different dimension.

Find real OE 11" 36mm ZR-1 wheels to use as the confirmation before buying or considering spacers of any type.

Where are you located?

Thanks for the info. I'll have to do some research on my rims I have on now. They are ZR1 style that were purchased around 13 years ago. I know they are 17x9.5. I'll have to figure out the exact backspacing. I have 275/40's on all four corners and they fit perfect without any spacers. There's about a half inch of space in the rear.
