help start up chain rattle that doesnt go away

Default help start up chain rattle that doesnt go away

this is a random problem . wont do it for months then poof it happens start the car and chain rattle it doesnt go away . keep stop and starting the car and the same thing . then I will start it and it is fine .the oil is full I use mobil one 10/30 and use the 1324 napa filter .I have also put in the updated tensioner housing on the passenger side of the car . anyone else have this problem happen to them . this just really worries me any ideas as to what might cause this .?

guess I will try 10/40 oil and see if that makes a difference

My first guess would be the tension-er that is activated by oil pressure. I might be way off on this guess... all I know is they are might be hard to come by...

hopefully somebody here will respond that knows more about it than I do.

Try a different oil filter. The backflow function is not working correctly allowing the filter to drain back and the rattle at startup is due to the 3 secs it takes to push the oil back into the filter. Its the only thing left I can think of since you did the RH tensioner mod already. GC

I agree, I had a similar once in a while problem, changed filter, all good now, Bosch 3401, Amsoil 10/40

waiting for the napa gold filter to come inwill report back soon as I refill the motor and trry starting again thanx for the thoughts .

the rattle should go away as soon as oil pressure comes up

sometimes the chain guides crack and allow permanent slack even when the tensioner is pressurized

tensioner could be bad too. don't run it if the rattle doesn't go away

There was a rash of 3401 a couple years ago that had bad diaphragms, I changed three of them out in three days because the oil drained out while the engine was off. luckily enough I contacted Amazon and they gave me a credit for two of the filters.

well after talking to pete and corey I changed the oil to 10/40 and anew napa gold filter .started her up and phew everything sounded perfect . I will keep an eye on her and hope for the best but if it happens again I am going to take the motor out. and have the heads ported and buy 2 new tensioners .and ck everything ojut and replace as needed
