First "getting it back in great condition" depends a lot on what needs to be done and how far you want to take it.

I'm happy to help you but Dallas is 4ish hours away. A bunch of Houstonians hang out on ZR1NET and if you post a "help" posting I'm sure you will get a direction. I bet they will want to look at your car in person to get an understanding, before making recommendations.

Don't claim to be in Corey's class, but I'm in Magnolia, just north of Houston. When you get the car back here, let's chat..

Don't sell your Dad's car. I know keeping it is logistically hard, but just don't sell it.

I'd vote for Steve too! Seen some of his work. I'm for getting your car back asap, regardless of your next step.

Are you becoming the Southern ZR1 shop when you retire? I'm smelling something. Lol.

Just hoping for the best. I guess there is a small chance the engine is not repairable. And I know you won't be doing any robust diagnosis. But maybe we'll figure out a way to get it in the hands of someone that can get it back to great condition.

I've been searching posts about the LT5...waayyy over my head to even assess the most basic things...I'll be looking for someone that can do a complete evaluation and tell me what sequence to start restoring/rebuilding things....IF we deem the car salvageable.

The OP stated that his father loved the car.
So we have an owner that loved the car, and the car has less than 30k miles.
It makes almost no sense that such a car would "need an engine".
Again, it's certainly possible, but not at all probable!
Hope once looked at, it turns out to be an injector or a coil pack, or something else inexpensive and easily fixed.
Best of luck!!!

I just saw this. I'm on the north side of Atlanta, closer to that shop if you want me to take a trip and check it out. Steve knows me.

Get the car to Corey Henderson @ Henderson Performance in New Braunfels, Tx.

If you can get the car as close as New Orleans, I can haul it to New Braunfels for you.

Once it is running good, you definately need to sign up for Gordon's School.

Just an update, I looked the car over, Something is amiss with the flywheel, clutch assembly. The car was shipped to Corey Henderson. The story is on the ZR1 net.
