Get Back in the game??
Brand new here. Been watching the site for a while and may be getting the fever back. Previous owner of several Corvettes. '64 C-2 coupe in 1966. "68 427/435 C-3 vert in 1968. New '77 coupe in 1976 (dissapointment) and a new '90 ZR1 in 1990. Sold the ZR1 after a few years and not many miles. (BIG dollar hit!!)
Anyway, it appears there are quite a few nice ZR1's available for what appears to be fair pricing and thought I would like to maybe try another one as I enjoyed the first one so much.
My question is: Does anyone know of someone in West-Central Texas (Abilene area) that is familiar with these vehicles, especially the LT5 ? I can still do regular maintenance stuff, but would need some help if it gets beyond that.
Any feed back would be appreciated.
Anyway, it appears there are quite a few nice ZR1's available for what appears to be fair pricing and thought I would like to maybe try another one as I enjoyed the first one so much.

I know Texas is a huge State , but over in the New Braunfels area there is Henderson Performance. Corey is one of the LT5 elite's.

In Texas terms New Braunfuls is not that far. Only a couple of hundred miles.
Hopefully there will be more Texans that are familiar also.

Jim is a Corvette guy and works on my LT5 and several of my friends.

lots of folks "fear" working on the lt5 (myself included!) but actually it's not bad.
join the zr1 net registry and you'll find that Texas has a large bunch of ZR-1 enthusiasts that are very eager to help you keep the car on the road and Corey for sure is one of the best.
the LT5 is anvil reliable, hence the "legend"
Like my old buddy Curtis Ward, my old Lingenfelter 390 just rolled over 100k miles. Car pulls just as strong as when I got it with 38k miles and has been the source of more grins than anything else in the herd.
the sound of the high compression LT5 singing through the old LPE (watson I think) headers and a B&B with x pipe is seductive indeed and 500+ at the tire is exciting indeed.

feeding 3" pipes to DynoMax mufflers and using vacuum actuated C6Z06 tips.

I am not really intimidated by the engine and in years past would just tear into stuff & fix it. A little older (and a little wiser, I hope) now & realize I would need some expertise if issues arised.
Was in the automobile industry in SoCal when I had the '90 ZR1 so there were all sorts of resources to get things sorted out.
I have located a '90 with a little over 30k miles that has been inland SoCal it's entire life. Just happens to be exactly like the one I had. Red over red, both tops, docs, etc.
Thinking about looking at it and see if the bug bites.
This car is a pretty early number. (Less than 500). I know the normal things to check, but is anyone aware of anything particular on the early cars.

Why don't you try to find your old car? Lots of fingers out there; probably not that difficult to locate if you still have the serial number.

It's relatively well know that the first 600 or so 90 LT5s were assembled with EXACTING specs with regards to cam timing. And that can add measurable horsepower. There was a stock early serial number 90 (black, owner worked at (I believe) a Nuclear Powerplant in IL, super nice guy but can't recall his name) that came to the ZR-1 Gatherings back 'in the day.' It had a chip, no exhaust, no intake, nothing but a chip. Consistently put down 360rwhp. Wonder what ever happened to that guy, and the car...

I thought of trying to track it down but have no idea what the Ser # was and don't think I would have any records to help. I had it back when cars were something to ride hard, put away wet and get another one!! Nearly makes me cry to remember all the one's (not just Corvettes) I treated like that!!
That is interesting about the early LT5's being set up to tighter specs.
Am trying to make arrangements to look at the one I located sometime over the weekend. Amazed at the prices on these wonderful cars. Sure glad I didn't keep the one I had expecting it to appreciate. Also REALLY glad I didn't pay a premium when I bought it like a lot of people did.

It also reminds me of a big block as far as exhaust note.
