Is the 1990 ZR1 an Iconic Design?

My guess is you are probably correct on that point. However, the 24 hour record full size poster shows the 1990 dash with an indicated speed of a 182 mph. Having seen that I thought that ZR-1 was a 1990 model.
The 24 hour record Z was at the NCM ( might still be ) in 2003 or 2004 but the display was roped off so I couldn't get a look inside.

I lived in Stillwater when Mercury Marine was tooling up for the Lt5 . They had a white and a gold demo. I was 20 years old and worked at the convenience store down the road from the plant where they filled up. They were a beautiful sight and the music those motors made has stuck in my memory. I will own a '90 very soon.

Did they make any early ones(besides prototypes) that had an Atari dash? If so, they will be worth big $$. I think the few without automatic climate control might fetch a few more $ as well.

If you see a flat dash 89 ZR-1 it was probably built in 1988 as a mule for testing. If memory serves me the number was around 93 units.
Most were destroyed once the validation testing was satisfied.
You are correct in the thought that the few that remain are indeed valuable. I know I would love to have one of those 1989 models!
The ZR-1 Net Registry would be a good source to look into the specific historical records of these ZR-1s.

Recently, as of January, there was an 88 car which ran through an auction. While the car was in the low six-figures, it was a no-sale. I personally think it was good money for the car, but the owner must not have, and didn't lift reserve.
With average 1990 cars under $20k now, they are a good buy, but how that translates to "iconic", I don't know. I mean, a clean 3rd Gen Iroc or GTA brings the same, if not more. Same era cars, so weird, considering they were 1/3 of the cost when new.
