Default 1990 ZR-1 P/S leak

Who makes the best P/S pump for 1990 ZR-1? Also, are there other leak prone areas in the P/S system?

Mine was a PS line that went to the cooler. Years of slow leaks made the cooler a mess. Had to remove, clean, & reinstall cooler with new lines.

Just the Pump, Pump reservoir and the high pressure line. GM Delco makes the best replacement

Put dye in the power steering to help identify the leak. I thought I had a leak as there was a oil spray on the drivers side under the hood. Did not see any dye. Turns out there was a missing bolt from the water pump and crankcase oil vapor was the cause.

While the high pressure line is the most likely culprit, my last one turned out to be the main shaft seal at the back of the pump. It had been leaking for some time. It was giant mess to clean up because the oil had attracted so much dirt. Btw, I found that with care, you can R&R the pump without removing the radiator hoses. It requires removing the pulley with the pump still installed. It’s more time consuming but beats having to drain and refill the coolant with the attendant concerns of air bubbles in the system.

Default C4 ZR-1 P/S Leak

Thanks very much for the information. Will be trouble shooting the actual leak source real soon. Thanks for the guidance. One thing, though, apparently positioning the pulley on the pump is a critical item for belt alignment - there is a factory tool.
