Where can I find Black Widows for sale?
There were only 8 built right? I'm not planning on buying one any time soon, but where would someone look for one, especially black widow #2 with 525 hp.
How much do you guys think they would go for?

You will search high and low, and I doubt the owners would be willing to part with them very easily.

Call DRM - he'll do you a black motor with more power than the original widows had. You could join the LT5 registry as well - has a nice classified ads section that lists MANY ZR-1s for sale. Talk to Clint aka USAZR1 on this forum, or goto http://www.lt5registry.net

525 HP is 368 territory. I guess this version had the big cams and all the goodies to hit that power level. plus the black engines really look cool IMHO.
I'd like to someday convert my 368 to the "black engine" with red letters look to go with the all black car. maybe a shiney black paint would look even better than the "crinkle coat"
George K. showed me his black widow at BG last year, very nice!!! that's the only one I have ever seen.

It must be good to be you, you have something we all dream about, well atleast I dream about :D . I was reading somewhere on the net about the Black Widows and it next to some of them, they were labels like "50 state street legal" , but next to yours it said something like full race engine, is it still street legal?
Was the Black Widow a factory option? Like how b2k was for the twin turbo? Because I recall reading about how Douge Rippie got together with the rest of the LT-5 dudes to make the Black Widows. It would be cool to have a stock 525 hp Corvette.

So, what are the specs on Black Widow #2? I've always wondered what was the max h.p. that a stock block (but modified top end) could put out, without power adders.
Is 525hp. pretty much the max? I'm assuming this car has a stock bottom end.

Hi Brian, Sorry I forgot to say hi last night.
My car is licensed & street driven. It is not emission complient (no cats, etc).
The others would pass an emission test. When mine was built, it was not originally intended to be street driven. This was not a factory option, but had GM's blessing. These cars were built early spring to fall 1993. When Mercury Marine shut down the LT5 production, the Black engine program also shut down. Only 8 cars had been converted. At that time, DRM used what they learned to begin building high performance engines in house. Mine, as all black widows, has a stock bottom end. My car has Mercury Marine race cams, no secondary port throttles, lots of induction porting (throttle body, plenum, injector housings, heads). Remember this car was built in 93 and was state of the art at that time. Since that time many strides have been made.
Watson headers, Flowmaster exhaust, DRM short stop brakes, G&S drilled rotors, stainless brake lines, roll bar (chassis stiffener), coilovers(+ other DRM chassis mods), and probably a few other things I can't remember. 4.30 rear gear at present. I have enjoyed this car quite a bit and am proud to own a piece of history. If everything goes as planned I will drive it to BG in May.
To answer your original question, they don't show up for sale too often!

Hey George!
No problem on not seeing me..;) Question for you: Does that car have the Rippie 'RB' cams or the 'BB' all out race cams? I would guess the latter from the radical idle and the part throttle driveability you've experienced over the years(I'm sure no secondary port butterflies is part of that equation). See you in BG!
