Default WTB: Cheap 6-speed car for racer

Looking to build a road racer and occasional autocrosser. Need a cheap 6-speed car as my starting point.

I saw one for 4000 dollars this weekend. It was an 89 with 220000 miles. It is in north west arkansas. It was cosmetically unpleasant, so I decided to pass on it. But if you are interested I can probably get the number of the lot it was on.

Even as tough as the ZF6s are, 220K might be a bit much for the abuse I will be putting it through.

Thanks!

Default race car

Instead of building a car you should buy my 92 that is all set up and ready for you to turn the key and race.
I autocross and run it solo at hi speed tracks such as gingerman, gratton, waterford and putnam park\
It is white, 6 speed, roll bar, koni's, heavy springs front and rear, 17 x 11 grand sport rims all around, aluminum racing seat. It only has 9600 miles all on weekends. The motor is a slightly modified LT -1 with headers and 3" exhaust. The air and radio both work.
Price is $16,000. If interested e mail me at RHORENSTEIN@AMERITECH.NET

I'm willing to pay more for a race-ready car, but not that much more. Not saying your car isn't worth it, it's just more than my wife will allow me to spend. Good luck with your sale.

Email sent. If it's a 6-speed car, cheap, and within 12 hours, I'm interested.

I have a 91 quaser blue convertible here in Houston that is EXACTLY what you are looking for. It is an NCCC/SCCA racer, placed #3 out of a field of 1000 competitors in 2002 in the SE Texas region. Car has an original 83,000 miles, 6-speed, factory F45 ride control car, factory hardtop only(softtop removed for weight savings), rollbar, fire extinguisher, full Z07 front and rear suspension, lowered, Hooker Super Comp full length headers, no cats, and EXTREMELY quick and well maintained for an 'ol L98. 11,900 takes her home. I have 30 pics, email or call at vettesource@hotmail.com or 832-654-7367

What is your definition of “cheap” ? You are NOT going to find an 89+ZF6 for under 5k that is running. When I was looking for my track car I found many 89+ ZF6s for under 6k but all of them had MAJOR issues. Such as bad trans, clutch, wrecked, or did not run. I know of a flood damaged 1994 LT1 with a 6speed for $4500.00… Interested?

Are you going to drive the car to and from the track or use a trailer? If you are going to drive it then you will not find a decent driver/track car for under 8k. Period. You would have to find someone willing to give it away. If you are going to trailer it then you should be able to find something with a trashed interior or minor issues for under 8k. I spent months looking for my car and the only reason why I want to sell now is because a friend of a friend is selling his track car and I want to buy it.  It’s complete and ready to go.

Another important thing to consider is the springs. 1996 Z51 springs are 1995 FE1 springs. every year the springs got softer and softer. Keep that in mind. Someone posted a spring rate chart a while go... I would do a search so you have an idea what is what.

Good luck

Robert

What I'm willing to pay with completely depend upon the car. There have been some good deals on the forum lately. Some I missed out on because I was too late, and some I passed only because they were automatics.

I'm a patient person, and have the cash ready. When the right car at the righ price comes along, I will jump on it same day.

I will be trailering the car exclusively. I am looking for something not wrecked with a good ZF6. High mileage is OK. Ratty interior is fine since it will be coming out anyway. If it's cheap enough, I'll take one with a blown L98 or LT1. I've owned and seriously modded both before, and know my way around C4s.

I'm willing to pay more for an Z51 car than I am an FE1 car since the FE1 car will require an imediate investment in suspension upgrades. My last C4 (an Admiral Blue '94) was an FE1 car, and it handled like an FE1 car.

I'm willing to pay more for a car that's already race ready since that will save me money in the long run. On the other hand, I look forward to dusting off my tools and doing the conversion myself.

I've seen your '91 posted, and I am watching your thread. You are a bit far though.

Ok. I think we have a better idea of what you are looking for now. Did you see the white 89 for sale about a few months ago... ? It's a FL car. He wanted $4500.00 because the Trans needed to be rebuilt. As far as I know he hasn't sold it.
