Default C$ ZF 6 Speed New in Box

I suspect someone is looking for this !!

This transmission is located in Salem, Oregon, USA 97301

Brand New OEM GM Corvette ZF S6-40, 540 Nm, Manual 6-Speed Transmission fits 1989-1996 Corvettes with L98, LT1, LT4 engines. Can also be used in 1990 -1995 ZR-1 LT5 if input shaft is changed. See Fitment Details paragraph, below, and parts manual at:

http://www.canadawideparts.com/downl...SpareParts.pdf

This transmission is Brand New, Not Remanufactured, Refurbished or Rebuilt, and Not Aftermarket. It is Made in USA by ZF INDUSTRIES INC, under contract with GM to build all 1989-1996 Corvette manual transmissions. This Part Number, 1052 000 089, is the latest, quietest version of the ZF S6-40. It is a NOS GM original transmission, which I ordered from GM through the parts department at Butler Chevrolet Dealer many years ago, while new ones were still available. It has never been unpackaged. It has stayed dry and clean in my garage, in the same new condition in which it arrived. It is probably the only brand new one in existence. It has the latest 1996 "Crash-Thru" reverse lockout, not the older lift-ring style, but this is a simple swap, if you prefer the lift-ring shifter. This transmission is also listed in other popular nationwide and local advertisement websites, and this ad may be canceled without notice.

For price comparison, a used, freshly rebuilt ZF S6-40 will typically cost $4,250 - $4,600 outright - or at least $2,750 exchange, plus a $1,500 core charge. At $2,600 outright, this BRAND NEW OEM GM transmission is a great deal, especially if you are removing a salable, old transmission.

Shipping Information: Located in Salem, Oregon 97301, in the I-5 corridor for easy access. I will cooperate with your shipper, to accommodate the driver's schedule. Total shipping weight, including 24" x 40" pallet, is 180 lbs. The packaged height, including pallet and shifter, is 28". If you enter those dimensions, weight, departure ZIP 97301, and this eBay item number (302478109363), together with your destination ZIP into the uship website, it will generate several quotes.

Fitment Details: This transmission is a direct replacement for 1989-1996 Corvettes (excluding ZR-1). However, 1989 through early 1993 models will require a clutch throw-out bearing replacement ($50). Midway through the 1993 model year, Chevrolet slightly reduced (from 1.375" to 1.315") the Inside Diameter (ID) of the Corvette clutch thrust bearing (aka "throw-out" bearing), as well as the matching Outside Diameter (OD) of the transmission input shaft "guide tube" - a sleeve on which the throw-out bearing slides back and forth in conjunction with clutch pedal travel. In other words, all 1989-1992 and some (early) 1993 Corvettes had a larger ID throw-out bearing, and larger OD guide tube on the transmission input shaft. This transmission has the smaller OD guide tube installed on the input shaft. However, a guide tube or throw-out bearing can be easily interchanged without opening the transmission. If you have one of the 1989 through early 1993 cars, then you can install this transmission in either of two ways: (1) By swapping the larger diameter guide tube from your old transmission (if you want to reuse your old throw-out bearing), or (2) By replacing your old throw-out bearing with the smaller ID throw-out bearing found in late 1993-1996 Corvettes. Most people will prefer the latter, because it is simpler, and a new throw-out bearing can be bought for $50.

Lubrication and Maintenance: Normal wear of the nickel-phosphor bronze alloy synchronizer rings occurs during shifts. Most of the worn material from the synchronizers goes into suspension in the transmission oil, which should be changed at 20,000 mile intervals to prevent accumulation of suspended alloy material in the transmission bearings (the most common cause of ZF S6-40 failures). After completely draining the transmission, GM engineers recommend adding 2 liters of BMW fully synthetic 10W-60 engine oil, BMW part number 07510009420 (in lieu of extremely scarce GM part number 1052931).

Performance Details: The ZF S6-40 is perhaps the most durable manual transmission ever developed for use in a mass-produced automobile. The test program for design acceptance was defined by General Motors Uniform Test Standard (GMUTS) R15-6. Testing involved 15,000 miles of full-throttle up-shifts and down-shifts at engine redline. This was done mostly up and down a 7% grade on the GM Proving Ground in Milford, Michigan, and included wide-open-throttle runs uphill in reverse. Another test involved 200,000 highway and proving ground test miles, while still another test involved about 80 hours of high-speed testing on various racetracks and at the GM Desert Proving Ground in Mesa, Arizona. This was followed up by a thousand miles of testing at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. The ZF S6-40 is an extremely durable transmission, making it a good candidate for use in any restoration, build, or conversion project.

Very interested! I'm in Portland.

How hard is it to fit this in a 1985 C4?

It's definitely some work. . .

Things you'll also need (outside of this trans).

1.) Clutch
2.) Flywheel
3.) Pressure Plate
4.) T/O bearing
5.) Harness
6.) Part of the trans tunnel (tunnel is different on auto to manual cars)
7.) Pedals (if going from auto)
8.) C beam (if going from auto)
9.) Master/Slave cylinder.

Done the swap; it's a bit involved.
