Default 1988 Coupe Charcoal Metallic.

I am looking for a home for my C4. Regretfully, I am downsizing this year [pushing seventy], and need to sell one or 2 cars.

This C4 will show well at any car show; last year [2018] I entered it in 2 Corvette shows and won a 1st and 2nd place in the ‘clean and shine’ category for C4s. Asking $6K.

Here’s the Story: I bought this Corvette in 2003. I am the 3rd owner. Previous owners in California and Texas. It had 112K miles, now has 145,500 miles. Runs good and never left me stranded. Currently, I only bring it out for ‘exercise’, not even a thousand miles per year. The car is mostly stock, color is rare Charcoal Metallic.

This list is some of what I’ve done to it.

Interior: Replaced with Al Knock leather seats and ACC carpet. Interior looks like new, a little wear on the leather bolster driver’s seat. New door panels. Dynomat sound deadener under rear hatch carpet.

Electronics: Over the years, I’ve replaced the MAF, IAC, ECM, knock sensor, relays, oxy sensor, and EGR valve. Installed a Bosch alternator and battery in 2016. Hypertech chip installed. Kept original. Everything on the dash works.

Fuel injectors: Changed to Bosch 111 reman injectors, 12K miles ago.

Body: No-hit body, clean car fax. I repainted the hood in 2003, when I bought it, due to rock chips and a deep scratch. The rest of the body is original paint and has reasonable “patina” for its age and mileage. New Bilstein shocks, 20K miles ago. Borla exhaust. Low riding wing, came on the car. New GM OEM valve covers, about 10 years ago.

Wheels: 1991 Corvette wheels re-chromed, like new in 2012, 10K miles ago, but now has some pitting, despite never been used in the rain. Tires have plenty of tread, but need replacement, due to age.

Tune up: 9K miles ago. Coil, dist. cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires. All AC Delco.

Fluids: All fairly fresh; Trans fluid and filter 17K miles ago. Differential fluid changed when I bought the car. Oil & filter changed every 3K miles with Mobile 1 high mileage. I never had to add oil between changes.

Drive train: All original and still strong.

Brakes: Hawk ceramic pads 11K miles ago. Brake fluid flushed 1K miles ago. New master cylinder when I bought the car.

New AC Delco water pump in 2017, new DeWitt radiator, last year, 2018. This car never has a problem with overheating.

Emissions: Passed inspection each time with no problem. Last time was April, 2015 [NJ no longer requires inspection on vehicles 25 years and older]. Some emission tubes are brittle and broken, does not affect performance.

Downside: I never use the radio, or air conditioner. The AC does not blow cold air, and the radio’s speakers are scratchy. The car has thrown an occasional code 33, I don’t know why, and always seems to cure by itself. The passenger side floorboard needs some repair. The PO somehow, scraped it. Probably a few other tiny things wrong, nothing major.

Comes with a $400 custom fit Covercraft car cover.

Here is a thread I started when I won 1st place in June, this year. C4 ‘wash & shine’ category.

Looks like a spectacular car form the couple of pics that were posted in the other thread. Would love to see more pics posted here. The color almost looks like a black metallic. Can't say that I've seen many in that color.

Here's a walk around from the Corvette show last September, it took second place. Notice the new water pump.

Here's an engine start-up video from the same day. Starts right up, runs nice and smooth.

Here's a walk around with a good look at the interior. Notice the passenger seat is like new, nobody ever sat in it. The ACC Carpet is like new.

The seats do look to be well done. Did you buy the seats mounted on new foam? Are the seats as comfortable as the original seats? The ACC carpet set looks excellent as well.

The seats are done by a well known Corvette restoration company. The leather came mounted on the foam. The details were incredible, even the numbers on the foam were the same. The stitching was better than factory. A little pricey though, around $1,000. Here's the factory seats, next to the new. The ACC carpet is probably the best carpet available.

Honestly you usually get what you pay for, and the Al Knoch seats do look incredible. I know other companies such as Mid America, Corvette Central, etc sell the mounted seats, but I don't know anyone personally that has experience with them. The seats on my 86 are the same color and are rock hard. They were replaced at some point and look great, but are literally stiff enough that you sit up too high and I'm looking for a replacement set. Even a used set would be better than what I have.

Wayne, the post above this is from my friend Steven in Belgium. He is interested but unfortunately I now live in Arizona and your car is too far away for me to do a test drive. I also have a friend in New Jersey though who might be able to look at the car. He is Mr Mojo, a former Forum moderator on the C4 forum. Do you mind if I have him contact you? I trust his judgement completely.
I have known Steven from Belgium for several years and helped him import a C3 from Florida several years ago. Belgium requires imported cars to be at least 30 years old or the buyer ends up paying a usurious tax. Steven is trustworthy and belongs to a major bank in Brugge that uses a wire transfer directly from his bank to your bank. He also imported a truck from the Indianapolis area a few years ago with no problems. USA cars are very popular in Europe and they have many car shows that feature them.
I have owned 5 C4s and I see that you kept this 88 immaculate. The car shows extremely well. I can truly appreciate your attention to detail and the time, love and effort you lavished on your Corvette.

here I am, haven't been on here in a while. Wayne, I'm on vacation this week but pretty busy, I may be able to get up your way either Friday or Saturday but it would have to be early, let me know if you are free either of those days and we'll take the next step.

Frank ,

thanks for offering to check out Wayne’s C4 but as I wrote Wayne yesterday , let me first check some things ( shipping and other costs to get the car to Belgium ) before you go plan your trip ! I will be back in touch later this week , traveling now in Germany.
Do appreciate your support and will ofcourse cover your expenses to inspect Wayne’s car.
Best regards,
Steven Van Gils

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to come out to check out the car this week. I have too much going on. Ron, maybe you can touch base with Turbo Bob, he's a good friend of mine and trustworthy.
He also lives a little closer than I do to Wayne. Just tell him I recommended him.

Again, I'm sorry guys.
