Yeah I figured most of you guys in this section have a set up drag tires/rims. I would like to run slicks for the track but I dont want to fork out 2k plus for CCW drag package. What is a cheap route I could go? Thanks a lot.

I saw on Texas Speed's website, a red FRC with what looked like a set of Bogarts on it. IMO, it looked waaaaay better than the mesh style CCW drag pack. Anybody run this setup?

The Bogarts actually cost about the same as the CCWs from what I read. Like $2200 without tires...And you have to run small rear breaks up fron to make them work.

Just get a set of stock wheels and use the 17inch fronts on the back with ET streets or drag radials...doesnt get much cheaper than that.

I am running the ET streets 26 x 11.5 x17 on a camaro ss rim and it works great as for the fronts i have heard that the new gto spear tire fits fine on the fronts and looks good. the only thing with et streets and regular street tire on front is that i have notice a little wandering up at speed (110 +) on the track.

Thus far I have $800.00 in with wheels tires/lugnuts. I decided against the front spacer route for it was not working for me and the front runners are no longer going to stick out so far. I'm going to the rear brake in the front conversion and see how bad the breaking decreases. This is what my set will consist of....
16x9 Weld Draglite XP's
ET streets 28x11.5x16
15x3.5 weld draglite front runner
165/R15 front tires
C5rear brake calipers/slides etc in the front to run the skinnies.

My opinion of the least expensive drag wheel combo. 16x8 camaro/firebird rim in the rear with whichever drag radial/slick you prefer and a GTO spare in the front.

Thanks for the replies. So basically, I could go with any ta/camaro 16 inch rim for the rears? Are the off-sets fine on them? What is the optimal rear tire width for a slick?

Yes. I ran 16'' Firebird rims with ET streets last season. A little grinding was needed for fitment, but nothing major.

I have tried several 'cheaper' alternatives to CCWs. Every one of them had slight problems and never worked out. Let me tell you, I most likely spent 3 or 4 times the amount of a CCW set all together in various setups. Save yourself the headache and trouble and do it right the first time.

I am not sure about 16 inch. I am pretty sure they will rub unless you do some grinding. The 17 inch work fine. and the offset are good. as for width it will depend on a few things
1 )being the amount of hp/tq you are putting out.
2) the prep of the track
3) how much stuff do you want to break
here is a little example
i am running the ET steets 11.5 x 26 x 17 I will launch at 3500 rpm's and will dead hook on a very well preped track. my hp is about 460 rwhp and 470 rwtq.
In the pass i would run the bfg DR 295/35/18 and would spin the tires at the same rpm.

1. CCW drag pack 1700-2000 used. 16x10 rear 16x6 front (price is the major draw back)

2. 17x9 wheels in the rear and 17in et streets (draw back is no full slicks are made in 17in and you loose some side wall for traction. can be had for 100-200 bux a wheel


3. 16x8 ta/camaro wheels. You can fit a 16in slick or et street, draw back is they are only 8 in wide. You lose a lot of tire surface on a 10 in tire can be had for 50-75 bux a wheel

4. 16x9.5 ugly *** 84-88 corvette wheels that came with the z51 suspension. (draw backs.. ugly as hell, but work great. 1.5 in wider then the t/a wheels) can be had for 50-100 bux a wheel

The tuff part is always finding a skinny that will work. I tend to agree with Kromberg, do it right the first time and save some money, i am in the same boat as him as i have had several drag wheels because i didn't want to spend the funds on CCW.

All 16" wheels (including the drag pack) need to have some clearancing done. Nothing that takes more than 10min a side and doesn't affect the integrity of the spindle.

Thanks for all the help. Question though: Is there any cheap 16x10 rim besides the expensive ccw's that can be used? Or are the 9.5 84-88 vette wheels the closest?

running ET streets with radials up front is not recommended with IRS and is a good way to put your car into the wall. The cheap way to do it is about $1k, the right way is about $2k, pretty simple choice IMO.

I have looked long and hard for a 16x10 that would fit... and i got nothing except CCW. 16x9.5 is the closest for cheap.

ET Streets are a bias ply tire, if you exceed 115mph trap speeds, REDC5 is correct, you don't want to put a radial tire up front. It will send you off to one side on the big side of the track... I DID IT...very scary.

Like i said, the tuff thing is to find skinnys. If you are doing 115+ trap speeds, buy the CCW package... it is worth it, especially when you come very close to the guard rail.

Drag racing and Budget really should not be used in the same sentence. I would just bite the bullet and get a set of CCW's

A package that has worked for me well in the past is.

1- Aftermarket 17" wheel package aka motorsports or ?? $400
2- Have the fronts narrowed at a local shop. $350ish
3- MT 17" ET Steets $400
4- Coker or Firestone 17" bias ply tires $85

Local shop on retainer to fix driveline $priceless$
