humm, I have a drag pack with 26x11.5x16 ET streets in the rear and I believe the fronts are a radial... this is what was on the setup when I purchased the car. how can I tell if the fronts are radials or not??

Chances are you have radial tires up front. Look at the fronts and get the make/model of them. Do a quick search on the makers web site and you should find out if there radial. If they are Goodyear/Michilen/Kumho/Etc they are radial tires.

why would CCW sell a mix-matched set of tires that was unsafe? that doesn't make any sense... on the street they feel fine, no swaying or anything.

I did not see you mention that you had CCWs before. John usually will not sell just the rears only because of the discussed issues

I was looking around online and found this. These look like Camaro wheels.

weldcraftwheels will narrow the fronts. I'm going to try and get a quotte. I couldn't find anyone local. I like the idea though. The stock Z06 wheels would look killer with skinnys up front.

I called and spoke with James. He quoted me 175 per wheel plus shipping. he would need a picture of the rim whithout the wheel with a tape measure from lip to lip. Anyone have a loose tire they could do this with?? he said that for 17x9.5 it would be hard to get them smaller than 6". Aren't the CCW's 4"?? I'd like to try and do this if it's possible. Z06 style drag pack would look nice.

Thanks guys

sorry I forgot to mention this was a CCW package.

I just checked the fronts and this is what information I have:

Firestone Deluxe
4 ply Polyester tube
load range B
5/5.25 - 16

My ASSumption is that since they say there is a tube in there that I'm not working with a radial... I'm going to search the interwebz and see what I can come up with.

Weldcraft is who does all of my work here .

I dont remember the last set I had done whether they were 17x8 or 17x9.5s but they came out to 5.400" when they were done which was fine.

Those are bias ply tires, John at CCW will not sell mixed combos.

It's kind of funny when people try to skimp on safety or do something half assed, especially on a modified C5. The $1000k you'll save will go a long way when you total your C5 at the track and insurance denies your claim because you were at a race track. I've seen it happen on more than one occasion.

I guess I'd need to find a 18 or 19" skinny for up front then since I'm running C6 Z brakes up front only. Stock in the back. I didn't think about the radial/bias combo at all actually.....hmmm

There seems to be a lot of knowledgable people in this thread, so I'll ask this: It's apparent that bias-ply/radial mix is bad, but I'm assuming drag-radials in the back and street tires on the front is safe?

I dont mean to drag up old wood but, has anyone had any problems running the GTO spare up front with the Firestone/coker tire? It looks like a decent option from what I have read depending on how fitment is? To me it sounds better than swapping brakes and rotors and grinding things down. I only track the car a few times a year? "last year 7 passes total"
I don`t know squat about tires/wheels . I would like hear more on the GTO fitment in front Pros/Cons danger factor . PMs welcome on the issue...

Keep in mind that the GTO spare tire wheel is just that. Since it is ment for temparory use, it most likely does not have the strength of a normal wheel. For myself, I would not risk my car and possibily my life on that.

Not to mention I doubt any track in the country would let you pass tech inspection with a set of donuts on the front of the car
