I'm debating if I should wrap the mid section of the exaust on my sts tt car. I hear you can get faster spool times, but it seems that the wrapping would hold moisture and such. Wouldn't that make it rust? (Its the stock exaust). Any other problems in wrapping the stock exaust? Also, what is the best way to place the wrap?
I have a custom built center section. it is catless and has an X pipe in place of the crossover pipe, i used exhaust wrap on it. If i had it to do over again I would have had it heat coated. My car is on coilovers and its bottomed out and some of the wrap is fraying.

I had my L.G. Motorsports Pro Long-Tube Headers, Random Technologies metal matrix catalysts, and the L.G. 3-inch X-pipe coated by Swain Tech using their White Lightening exhaust coating - http://www.swaintech.com/. They claim that their coating reduces external heat emissions by 50%.
Thanks guys... What happens when you drive in the rain and the exaust is wrapped?? Do you have to worry about it traping moisture and rusting?
I haven't wrapped my exhaust but I have everything that I need in order to do so.. Peps on LS1tech said it made a big difference so I figured what the hell.. As for what happens in the rain.. DEI sells some silicone spray which is said to "seal and protect" the exhaust wrap.. I ordered that too but I also plan to stay out of the rain (my awd car is a lot more fun in the rain)..
As for the coating.. Someone on LStech said a wrapped mid did a better job retaining heat/improving boost characteristics than a swain coated mid... I also read that because the wrapping changes the point where boost comes in, the car needs to be retuned.. Sooooo, I won't wrap my exhaust until its ready to get tuned..
Im no expert, but Im sure the experts can chime in..
Dont get just any ceramic exhaust coating. HPC and Jethot have coatings that consist of a ceramic binder with aluminum substrate. The ceramic holds the aluminum next ot the tubing to keep it from heatsinking and draws heat away from the tubing faster than normal. You want to keep heat in the tubing not draw it away faster. HPC makes a coating for keeping heat in- its the 2500* Extreme Coating and its 15 mils of pure ceramic. They say you can touch a header with the engine idling and it will only be warm to the touch.
