Default Howto muffle rear mount

Just finished up my twin rear mount setup. No cats. The exhaust itself is too loud for my liking. Any ideas on how to add a muffler in this kind of setup? I was thinking a 2 in 2 out style muffler in place of where the h pipe is, but I can't seem to find one that has the inlet and oulets the same distance apart as the stock h-pipe. Another thought was just simply adding a glass pack on each side were the cats used to be. That should fit fine and would be the easiest, but I'm not too sure how much a glass pack on each bank would quiet things down. I don't want to add a muffler after the turbos due to a few reasons, so I need to find something to work before the turbos (on the h-pipe). Thoughts?

I think you'll loose all your exhaust pressure if you go before the turbo's, I have some bullet mufflers meant for turbo diesel and they work just fine, no real noticeable lag in boost.

I agree any type of muffler before the turbo is going to hurt exhaust pressure you need... Kooks has some race bullet mufflers that will kill some dB's, and are inexpensive if you want to try and put them where the cats were.

I have an SLP single 'double D' tip that both turbos dump into that helps cancel some of the noise. It was a bitch to mount. Still pops on decell but the tune might be adjusted to help with that. I suppose you could add a Flowmaster type baffle to one, or fab one up and put tips on it.

Not sure exactly what your turbos look like in the back. I'm guessing its an STS setup or something similar to it?

This guy was able to fit a good sized muffler back there (although you'd have to cut out your rear center storage thing to really fit a good muffler)

As for putting mufflers in the tunnel, there's obviously the downside of losing some exhaust pressure, but here's a thread about possible set-ups:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ns-tunnel.html

The Magnaflow "Magnapack" catback system has 2 mufflers in the trans tunnel. I used to have that exhaust and I thought it sounded great. There was another thread of a guy who installed 2 generic glasspack type mufflers in there that he bought off Summit. I couldn't dig up the thread, but it didn't look too hard to put mufflers there if you're good with a welder.

Good luck.

Here are some Kooks R300-10's I put on my downpipes. They are pretty much straight through. In case you try to fit them where the cats were, they will fit. These are 5" OD.

It was too loud outside the car. I ended up putting in a muffler. Well it was more of a resonator with an x-pipe design. Quieted it down just enough.
