Smoke from Oil Breather Cap
Just wondering if this is a normal amount of smoke that comes out of the oil breather cap? Seems that when ever I get the vehicle in boost, I get a small amount of oil that spritzes all over the valve cover and I'm sure some on the belt. This seem to happen when letting off of the throttle, I do have a catch can. My system is a Paxton 2000 with a 8 rib setup 13 to 14 Lb of boost. I've attached a link to a recent dyno pull video, noticed the amount of smoke out of the breather cap, when coming off the throttle. Sorry for the poor quality video, used my cell phone.

probably getting quite a bit of blowby or backfire going on during the rapid deceleration on the dyno
does it do that on the street? that's quite a bit of smoke.
mine smokes a bit when warming up from the loose clearances on the forged pistons, but not that bad.

I don't think that is normal. Mine has just a bit occasionally but it is when in boost. That seems a bit much

Yea first time I've seen it from that angle, never able to notice it on the street, did notice a light oil smell in the car when coming off of boost. I'd be interested in hearing what would cause this and how to fix it from one of the forum vendors in this field.

I'm not sure if this is related but my turbo motor was spraying out oil through the dip stick.I have a catch can.I found a K&N breather for the oil fill spout and that has helped a lot.Which BOV do you have?

Some oil and smoke out of that oil cap filter is normal, but yours seems a little excessive. Also, as mentioned what bov do you have? It doesn't sound like its releasing all the air fast enough...might need something bigger.

Car should not be doing that.
How about some details on the engine? Also how much boost?
First thing that comes to mind is your rings are shot or nearly shot. Try doing a compression and/or leak down test.
Oh and start saving up for a new motor.

Thats not normal.
But are you certian that came out of the breather??? I cant be sure from the video, but I think that had to be out of the BOV. At least it looked like. Which, isnt normal either.
Call the shop in the morning and speak to me or Chris. We'll give you some ideas.

Yikes. Like Mike said, the smoke doesn't appear to be from the breather cap. With oil spraying out, I can relate to that. Have you cleaned the filter? I soak mine in gas for a few minutes then blow it out. That keeps the oil under control for a while.

thats the way it is when you get over 10psi of boost it going to get past the rings in the crank case!! you need to get a lot more crank case vents like arun said! and on the dyno it worse!! when you blow out your rear main seal then its bad!a bigger bov will help let the boost pressure out some! you ned lots of crank case vents!!!!

Thanks for the advice guys, I've got an extra BOV coming so I'll be running 2 versus a single larger one. I'll also look into venting both banks. The motor is is pretty fresh and I'd be surprised if its a going past the rings. I'll look into doing a compression and leak down test for peace of mind. I'm confident in my mechanic ( Dr Phil ) he is one of the best and I'm sure this will get resolved.
