Agreed. I'm working on an auto swap and reference it all the time.

i finished mine about 2-3 months ago... went with a 00 auto tranny harness (according to the guy i bought it from) (my car is a 2000)connected to an rpm jumper harness... and a reflash on my computer(well im under the impression it was reflash to an auto). the car drives good and shifts really good, but the car will not shift at high rpms. im not sure if its at a certain rpm that it wont shift or at WOT if wont shift. seems that i can go 1/4-1/2-3/4 throttle and it will shift nice and firm but at wot it just bangs off the rev limiter. i was told that the cars computer is not telling the transmission to shift according to the scanner when plugged into the car. i would appreciate any help or leads to figure this out.. my tuner says its not in the tune and that he has tried everything he can think of to get it to shift.. was told that i can get the tci controller and that would for sure work but i know its been down with a factory auto harness and rpm jumper harness and ive already spent the money on that route so i would like to make it work... please help.

thanks and sorry for the high jack, bad *** parts being used for sure, im jealous.
Did you properly fill your A4 with ATF? If done wrong (very easy to do), you will end up about 2 quarts low which can cause exactly what you are describing. Somewhere around here is a good thread describing the fill procedure but the short and sweet is it needs to be done at a specific temp range (80f-120f).

This is such an awesome thread. Ive read thru several times, but still unsure on a few things.

I am amassing all of the parts for my auto swap for my SC Z06, ~650 rwhp. So far I have the following:
Harness/shifter
built 4L60e
converter drive plate
auto torque tube housing with stock auto driveshaft
transmission cooler
stock bellhousing (not using)
flexplate with hub, clamp and bolt

Here are the parts that I still need to acquire:
stall
torque tube input and output shafts OR built TT
SFI bellhousing
output shaft seal and oring
shift cable mounting bracket

Questions:
How much HP will the stock auto driveshaft hold?
Do I still need a conversion harness from RPM with the stock harness?
Are the manual TT input and output shafts the same as an auto (can i rob parts from my manual TT?)
Is this the differential seal plate? I may already have it:

Is this the differential seal plate? I may already have it:
1) More than you currently have - likely around 1000 before being concerned

2) Yes - you need the harness that has about 16 wires that you will have to insert into the PCM. RPM and other places can make this for you.

3) No - get an Auto TT

4) Yes - that is the plate you need.

You will likely have to make a bracket to hold the shift cable, as the oem part is no longer available.

Have fun with your project!

I doubt the stock TT bushings will take much more than the stock output before failing. I would look into getting some aftermarket couplings. The mechanics are rather simple, however the wiring can take a bit of time if you want to get everything working. You can save yourself some headaches and use an after-market shift controller and avoid the whole re-wiring process.

Ok, so I talked to Shane at RPM today and got some things figured out.

One thing I am concerned with is that the harness that I have is from a 2000 (12189826) and my Z06 is a 2002. Will this harness work, or do I need a 2002 harness?

Do you have the service manual for your 02Z? You will be able to reference the harness to your manual to ensure the pins are correct.

IIRC, I put a harness from a 99 into my 01Z.

You will really want one of those. I suggest you pick it up before proceeding with your swap.

Hi Bill,

Sorry I haven't got an email out to yet. The transmission harnesses are different between the years. In mid 2001 they changed over some of the connectors.

If you look at the harness that you took out should see some dates on the harness. You want to find one in an automatic in the general time frame.

I'll try and send some more info tonight.

Ok, I purchased some service manuals. Havent dove into them yet.

I have my entire drivetrain, pedals, etc out of the car. bellhousing was a @#$%#$@!

Fenders are off. The only thing that I havent removed is the manual wiring harness. Looks like it splits and goes to either side of the engine, I assume the passenger side goes to the EBCM. Where are the plugs? How hard is this to remove?

You shouldn't have to remove the harness going to the ebcm. (Iirc)

Just remove the harness that runs down inside the tunnel.

Take your time and it'll come to you. It's not that difficult.

yeah, I meant pcm. It wasn't hard to do, other than trying to get those plug ends fished through by the back of the block on the passenger side.

Ordered my rpm harness yesterday and making a trade for all of the other auto stuff I needed this weekend.
