LS2 dipstick part number and pic request
In the other thread someone was recommending upgrading to the LS2 dipstick. I'm unable to get my stock dipstick back in (that's what she said) after going to the Kooks 1 7/8. Figured I could do this "mod" while I was at it.
Anyone have pics of how it mounts or a part number? Will I need just the tube or the actual dipstick too?

From a bad experience after an engine build/ install I had, I recommend you double check the length of the new dipstick/ tube to ensure that the new combination measures the same depth. Somehow I ended up with a shorter dipstick that had my oil overfilled by a qt+..... I believe it was a newer LS dipstick.

I can't recall the part number just look up the product from a C6 with an Ls2 engine and you should find the part number. I can help you with the mounting location look pics. The first photo (my car before the LS2 oil dipstick and tube swap) depicts the stock LS1/6 dipstick and tube mounting The second pic (AJRothm's car) depicts the LS2 dipstick and tube mounting. Yes I know AJ's car makes mine look like a pig. It's embarrassing but its not going to look that rough for much longer.

As you can see the LS2 dipstick tube is designed different and it is indeed shorter. So when you install it make sure you make new marks on the dipstick itself so you put the correct amount of oil in. If you go off the factory markings of the LS2 dipstick you will most certainly over fill your crank case.

I did a quick search on the dip stick tube and dipstick for an LS2. I hope this helps.

May be a silly question but can you use the LS2 dipstick holder assembly (tube) but insert the ls6 dipstick into it since its longer and would go deeper into the pan?
I assume the LS2 holder assemby (tube) is shorter than the LS6 assemby.

Slightly different design I don't think it will work that way. (Let be be more clear it will physically fit in the tube) but lS2 dipstick is double o ringed at the top of the dipstick (closest to the draw handle) and the LS1/6 is not. So using the LS6 dipstick kind of defeats the purpose of getting the LS2 dipstick to begin with.
The LS1 dipstick is kind of cork screwed in design and the ls2 dipstick is straight and flat. Not sure if that makes a difference.

I got a GM LS2 stick and tube from ebay for $20 shipped. Brand new and fit like a glove. Like Mike said you will have to move it one position to the rear, and I had to do some massaging to get it to clear a header bolt.

eBay is a good idea for something like this. I should have did the same.

Dang the LS2 dip stick is close to the same location as my early '98 LS1 dip stick! Crazy man!
Anyway to get a aireal view of the dip stick (LS2)?
Thanks,Matt
