Re: Nitrous? So much for the integrity of our Corvettes. (justchanna)
Justchanna, now I understand the full picture. You joined a forum about Corvettes because you are proud of your new Z06 with 405 HP. A Z06 is a great choice. You then slam us with one of your first posts ever. Posting in this section of the forum was not a good choice with the amount of time and research spent on the "Gas"and "Blower" subject. Now you hide behind your female gender after posting, " C'mon guys, leave that stuff to the amateurs." I may have had a bad day but this makes me laugh. We love it when females join the forum. I would love to show you how slow your stock Z06 is and then help you install some power. Many people love to modify everything in life and others like things original, Integrity is not lost. Keep in mind this is for fun.

my .02....
For the majority of the population, believe it or not fellas, the performance or horsepower on stock corvette is plenty. All of my friends with sports cars do absolutely nothing to them  .
but as it was said before, this is not the section to espouse this view and not occur antipathy. There is probably nothing wrong with J-channa, she is actually satisfied with "stock" parts....and probably represents the vast majority of car owners.

Here's one that will make no sense to you.
I wouldn't even own a Z06 if it didn't have the extra power.
I actually had parts (including the nitrous) sitting in my garage waiting for the car to arrive.
I went with nitrous b/c at 10.5+:1 CR, it makes the most sense for a stock motor. I didn't feel like tearing apart the brand new 0-mile engine and lowering the CR for a turbo/blower. Do those two power-adders also blow the "integrity" of the Corvette?
Please.
That being said, the beauty of it is that I hardly ever use it b/c the car IS fast the way it is. :D But when I need it, I've got some extra power at my fingertips. What is wrong with that? If its done right...nothing.

Why use nitrous? To smoke stock ZO6's like yours.
A nice base nitrous kit is around $500-$650 bucks. To get the same performance results you would spend AT LEAST $5,000-$10,000. I will run it in every car I have until I die. I am looking at putting a 35 shot on my chopper too :reddevil

Best post yet - However if I had a Z06 -the first thing I would do is put on headers, exhaust and Nitrous..that's it.. :smash:

It really is too bad to read that nitrous is being placed into the ultimate muscle car. Yes, I do know it increases a cars performance. But, c'mon guys, leave that stuff to the amateurs.
Ok, I guess a 10.8 ET makes me an amateur!

Yes, why would any sane man take a Z06, and add juice or a blower ets...I makes no sense, only a cray man would do that, and a amateur at that..Guess you can also include me in this group

That is the best point in the whole thread ... most people are happy with a stock Corvette, I know I was until I joined the forum [/QUOTE]
Me too! I want a reliable daily driver without having to spend every damn Saturday at a Tuner, at the track or in the garage trying to figure out why my car overheats....
Not picking fight with the HP elite, just not looking to join, anymore  :D

Re: Nitrous? So much for the integrity of our Corvettes. (justchanna)
Corvettes are extremely versatile and are therefore used in all kinds of racing. Like any tool, they will be modified to be the best for the kind of racing they will be used. Nitrous makes sense in a quarter mile race or a street race that is artifically constrained by traffic and road conditions. Both kinds of racing are over in very short periods of time and usually don't continue on into conditions involving cornering and braking. Nitrous lasts just long enough to get the job done.
However a bottle of nitrous lasts about one minute, which isn't going help much chasing a Z-06 up a deserted mountain road or in a race like the Silver State Classic which involves 90 miles of Nevada highway and triple digit speeds.
Nitrous cars are kinda like Cinderalla's coach. It's fun while it lasts, but when the magic runs out, all they have left is a pumpkin. You've got a Z-06.

Re: Nitrous? So much for the integrity of our Corvettes. (Tuan Le)
Tuan, where else would I post my opposing view on nitrous? I wasn't looking for fellow stock owners to agree with me. Quite honestly, I was just surprised to find nitrous to be so hot among corvette owners. In Southern California, nitrous is the rage with the adolescents driving H' Civics and M' Eclipse. I never really cared about their performance, knowing the really identity each pumpkin car.
I intially logged onto C' Forum assuming the muscle car guys (and me) laughed at the guys that used/needed nitrous to compete.
I know that the 'power' involved in this forum (and your yellow monster) is on a far, far different performance level. But I just didn't realize that the nitrous wave had made it on to the vette guy's 'to do' list, next to blower, t'charger, headers, chip, ...
Whew! No further closing arguments.
By the way 90 in 2nd, how is Stage III coming along?

AKW, I know how to drive. Especially since I practive every day in vacant parking lots. By this time next year I hope to be ready for freeway driving.
Actually AKW, according to that Christmas tree, I do need to work on my response time.
Yes, 'we' is me and my Z06.
