Looking for shortblock options with the least turnaround time. I'd like to order a shortblock, preferably a 346-347 with a stock crank to handle 850rwhp and sell my block, crank, rods, etc.
I've talked with all the major engine builders in Houston, just looking for more options out there. Thanks.
Have you talked with Halston at HSquared in your back yard? With all the parts in hand, he can guarantee short delivery time and with his extensive HKE background, he knows how and cares to do it right, every time. I'm told he's competitively priced too. He's certainly taken care of me every time I've dealt with him, at HKE and now with his shop.
Bret, I talked with Beau. I'm most likely going to go with them. Just wanted to see what else is out there for a quicker turnaround, etc.
Thanks guys. Keep them coming.
Good deal. Also saving a little time & money with shipping. Most importantly, I think, is that if you ever had any troubles/needs with your motor, he's easily accessible without worrying about shipping it back and forth to be warrantied or just looked at, which I wouldn't expect the shop's going to pay for in the end.
You can't go wrong with either builder. I have an AES built 390 and love it.
Thanks, Y2K, I'm just a bit concerned now with their turnaround time. I just talked with some local guys, and it seems a long time. I'm not looking for a crazy 1200hp built, just a mid to low 9 car.
Another vote for AES. I have worked with Mike over there on a couple different projects over the last few years. Lightning fast turn around and I have honestly never seen better customer support/service from a engine builder. I think a 364-370ci would be the hot ticket for you....

I got my motor about 2.5 months after I placed my order...not bad considering how much they have going on. I also had to wait a week on the pistons and skirts to get coated and they also ran out of cranks and that cost me about 5 days. All in all, I haven't heard anyone have any issues with their motors. There are a lot of guys on LS1tech that have AES motors and I have seen zero complaints.
Hi. Next time I need a motor I'll use Beau. He was a huge help to me but I was looking for a way fast turn time. Being I'm not even close to local I went a different direction. I got a short block fast and it runs fine but never did get a build sheet or photos that were promised. I know whats in it but the sheet would have been helpful if I ever sell. I know that would not have happened with Beau. Plus the level of attention he shows borders on sickness from all accounts.
I'd stick with H Squared, just make sure he knows the time line you are working with. He can probably have a short block ready in less then a month. Having someone local to deal with is huge piece of mind if you have a problem..
Probably all your engine is gonna need is a hone job, stock bore Wiseco Pistons and a set of Compstar rods, true up the decks on the block/heads and throw it back together. Talking $3k max..
TMS sure advertises alot on ebay and seems to be a big volume engine builder
good prices too. they adv a 900 hp short block that should be right up your alley
like to hear more feedback on them
I'm not in a hurry, and may go with a local builder to have the short block assembled and I'll do the rest
My iron block is from Thompson. Stock crank, forged rods and pistons, ARP throughout. Cost me under 3k and I had it here within a week of ordering. Its a build they generally keep on the shelf from what I understand.

Another vote for Thompson. He was great to work with and even gives a warranty!!!
I'm waiting to here back from Thompson Motorsports. Really would not like to be down 3-4 months. Looking for a quick turnaround. Hsquared and G&G here in Houston are similar in build time and cost.
AES just told me he would have a 390 built in a week for me. I told them I need to pull a head and figure out the CC of them before he orders parts because I want a certain compression. Brian was nice and knowledgable to talk to.

Waiting on Thompson before I make the decision.
You wont go wrong with these guys. We had a issue last fall with a high dollar 408 they did for my friend. We took the engine out and down to the shop they took it completely apart, fixed the issue, and had it back to us in 4 days. Like I said earlier, awesome customer service. The 390 they build has a really great track record, it doesnt use a 4340 crank though to my knowledge. Believe its a callies 5140 crank, still way stronger than stock. I would personally opt for a better crank, but thats just me. Plenty of guys making 800-1000+hp with that engine.
