8 rib overdrive crank pulley with 6 rib setup?
I have been searching but haven't found too many good threads on it. I have an A&A kit that is currently 6 rib and wanted to order the Powerbond 8 rib 10% OD pulley. I have had people, including the shop installing the kit tell me it will work. Then I also have seen the answer I listed below from josh @ A&A. I just want to know for a fact of it will work and also belt length required with a 3.6 blower pulley and 10% OD
"n order to run the 8-rib balancer you need to convert your bracket to 8-rib spacers, idlers, s/c pulley, etc. Then if you don't have a accessory drive of some kind you can just use a 6-rib belt on the 6 grooves closest to the engine side. Then later, if you add a accessory drive of some kind you can throw a short 8-rib belt on the s/c side"

I believe it depends on the bracket. I belive people run the 6 rib flip drive with an 8 rib balacer all this time? Hope so because that is what I am looking to do.

I'm running an 8-rib IW OD pulley that has the ECS cog conversion which drives the 6-rib A&A accessory drive. I had to buy the 8-rib bracket/pulley kit from A&A to be able to run the 8-rib belt from the IW pulley to the head unt and water pump.

Well thanks for the replies but still doesn't seem to quote answer what I am looking to do. I will talk to the shop owner when I drop the car off if I can't find my answer before then

yes you can run a 6 rib belt on an 8 rib balancer and upgrade the rest of the pulleys to 8 rib later on down the road or if you decide to add a secondary drive instead then you will leave the alternator/power steering pulleys alone and only need to upgrade the blower pulley to an 8 rib

I mean no disrespect when I say that it concerns me that your shop doesn't see the trouble that will ensue if you don't do what Josh advised you to do. I can promise you that they haven't been through this scenario before because it would've ended in disaster.
You use a 6-rib bracket on a 8-rib balancer and you've lost your clearance between bracket and the balancer. You MUST space the bracket forward to accommodate the added forward spacing of the new balancer. When you do that, you've moved the entire assembly forward and misaligned the blower system's pulleys with the rest of the serpentine system. The fix is to convert your entire bracket to 8-rib and use the rearward 6 ribs.

Bret the shop doing the work is Lethal Performace in SATX, I just asked Danny if it would work via text and he said yes but I am sure he would explain to me in person about spacing the bracket out etc.

I've got mad respect for Danny and his people. I'll text him and see what's going on. Maybe he's got something up his sleeve.

Care to share pics? I ordered a smaller blower pulley for now but I still may try and do this later in conjunction with the smaller blower pulley.
