I believe it was either not straight in the bore or just too loose. It didn't spin just walked out.

New updates to this thread. This is no longer gonna be a junkyard engine. MVP is throwing together this 5.3 with a set of wiseco pistons, k1 crank and rods. Parts pics coming next week.

It still lives rightnow, I have a used forged ls1 in there.

Parts

3.820 bore x 3.622 stroke. 5.4L 331CI. It should be a fun motor. Nothing crazy just durable.

The gen4 rods look pretty strong to me and I'm thinking a stock rod, crank bottom end with wiseco forged pistons should be pretty stout

the 4.8/5.3 motors are "throw away" as no one wants the small bore stuff but there is no doubt that the blocks are stronger than the ls1/ls6 blocks

talk to a machinist about working on the iron blocks vs the alum ls1/6 blocks and you'll see why the iron blocks are so much stronger

I think the alum l33 and variants provide the best of both worlds, strong block, and light weight.

Love to see the "lil thumper" builds as these engines seem to live well on low coin and check all 3 boxes good fast cheap

hard to do

What years/model came with the L33?

Yeah I love the aluminum 5.3 blocks. Thickest sleeves in an aluminum block for super cheap.

The L33 only came in select 05-06 silverados, but there's actually 4 versions of the aluminum 5.3. LM4, L33, LH6 and LH8. The LM4 and LH6 are fairly common as they came in all the v8 equipped gmt3600 vehicles except the TBSS and 9-7x Aero which are LS2's. The LM4 and LH6 both have dished pistons. The LH6 is gen 4 though.
