granted i'm far from having enough knowledge to design a cam, but i'd guess it could be for valvetrain longevity: having it open longer while also having equally high lift might theoretically unevenly stress the exhaust springs more, thus driving earlier replacement, meaning you either swap out the intake springs more often than they need to be (= $$) or you tear into the heads twice (= $$).
that'd be my guess at rationale
