Well... Not much update..same crap.

I got the alternator back on, went for a cruise....then it started raining and cooled off the ambient to 88*... Kept driving for a while knowing this wasn't gonna be a true test... Then after about 30 mins, the alternator started acting up again and dropping voltage. I parked it for 30 mins, by then the sun was out, temps were up to 92* and I take back off... In normal city traffic, light to light, it's holding 210* with the AC on, so a definite improvement with the fans... Unfortunately the test isn't a real scenario since it was only 92*. I need to test it when it's 95-98*, but first I need to get an alternator that will hold 14.0v for more then 30 mins..

I leave out of town on vacation next week so... Probably won't have any of this resolved by then..

Has anyone ever tried a pusher fan on this kind of setup? I am going through the same situation with my A&A kit and have cried myself to sleep through many summers of changing the cooling setup.

Sorry to hijack.....
Is everyone still running a stock front bumper?

I just cut my license plate area out, but haven't tested it yet. I wonder if a tigershark front bumper is the answer.

I'd really like to keep the stock style bumper though....

So I got ballsy and decided to drive it to work today, to battle the afternoon traffic..

I had about 5 miles of this:

In this:

It was really 95* ambient tho...

This was the hottest it got:

Took about 20 mins of 0-20 mph stop n starts to creep to 217*, then it locked in there and never went hotter.. This was with the AC throwing snowballs at 39* the entire time.

Once I eventually got back up to 65-70 mph, it cooled down to 207*... But it did take about 10-15 mins to cool down.

Still a lot better then it was with the previous spal 12" fans.. It would have been 228-230* easy and would have kept climbing if I sat longer.

Now, I'm not saying it "won't" go over 217* with the AC on if I continue to idle more then 20-30 mins but... It's definitely better and I'm not in a severe panic now when I see cars piling up. Finally after 4 years of fighting this crap, I can actually somewhat drive it with some relief.

I will still be cutting the front frame cross bar and relocating the IC to the front bumper to improve higher speed cooling but... At least it's going the right direction.

Stay tuned...

So the current setup is dual Extreme fans, Ajrothm?

YES!

These fans right here:

Be aware, these fans pull serious amps...about 30-35 amps continuous each. You need a serious alternator to run them. I have a Billettech 170 amp and it seems to keep up well, until it gets really heat soaked and starts switching off from over temp/over amp protection. I'm changing brands on alternators and I will report back if the new brand does better or worse, another $800 experiment I am doing for the class..

Also make sure you have 0 ga or 2/0 charge cable from the alternator to the battery....

I am still running the factory fan wiring and relays for right now, but I will likely be running 8 ga wire and 50 amp relays to each fan very soon, as soon as I can figure out how to make it worth with the factory PCM control.

However it would have been nice if it had at least come with an inline fuse for the 12v constant power circuit.

The temp switch is 165* on/185* off and just screws in an adapter that goes in the radiator hose.

I'll get back to work on it tomorrow.

I need to bump this. Where did you get 12v switched power from? I know where there is a few to tap into, but does it need to be a 30amp circuit?
