Default External fuel pump ideas for YSI

Moving up to a YSI from a SI.. will need more fuel. Currently have a 255 in tank and KB BAP. Its a '99 and I already did a regulator at rail/97-98 fuel filter/-6 return line while engine was out. It is a LS3, ported, cammed, 1000cc injectors. Will be doing some HPDE stuff so pump will be cycling. It is also driven on street quite a bit.

Was planning on -10 from bottom of tank to pump and either -6 or -8 to fuel rail with a tees for stock fuel line. Do I need to use a check valve on external pump? What inline filter should I use (pre pump?)? What brand of hobbs switch are the best (seems like it would be weak link in system).

Thinking about these.. anyone have good/bad experience?
Holley 12-1600
MagnaFuel 4303 or 4301
Aero A1000
Or??

I tried the fuel calculator but could not get it to work...

Oh yeah.. pump gas.. we do not have E85 here..

Thanks!

Joe

If you want a pre made set up ready to go, our stg 2 fuel system would fit your needs well. That has an Aero 1000 pump. PM me for details.

I'm running the 12-1800 and it has been flawless. Works great and is very quiet.

I have a 255 in tank, and a sump feeding a Magnafuel 4703. Check valve and aero motive stainless filter. -10 up to engine that splits to twin -8 to feed the back of each rail. Magnafuel is hooked up to 5psi Hobbs switch. -10 return to top of driver side tank. Simple and effective.

12-1800 Holley here. Has check valve built in. Works flawless. 10 micron filter in engine compartment, 80-100 by fuel pump. You will need A & A bracket to mount fuel pump if C5. Call Josh at A & A. Would suggest their Hobbs switches also....set one at about 4 lbs boost...other at 6-8 for second pump top kick in.

Bosch 044 over all of those pumps. Cheaper, proven track record when it comes to reliability, and probably out flows all of those at 100 psi fuel pressure

Had an 044 before the 12-1800... they both work fine but I like having the extra pump, in case one ever fails.

Never had any issue with either.

Absolutely.

If 1 x 044 isnt enough, use 2...if 2 isnt enough, use 3

There are some others out there claiming to offer 044 upgrades, AEM, Grams, DW.

Whether reality actually supports their claims or not is another matter...and I really doubt any of the copies will be as reliable as the Bosch.
it's easily a 30+ year old design...and still few can match it.

Just make sure any external pump like that has a good gravity fed supply of fuel.

Is the 044 enough pump? I am guessing I will be in the 800whp range?

The only thing that concerns me about the Holley pumps is I see a ton of them for sale rebuilt from Holley... anyone had problems with them?

I haven't had any issues myself. Mines been on the car for about 3000 miles I guess. The only one I personally saw have issues was because of installation error. It was mounted above the tank. It needs to be below per Holley directions.

i have an a1000 for awhile now and no complaints. if you insulate the mounting point it's a bit less noisy but I like to be able to hear it when it first kicks on so i know it's on. i think fuel pressure guage and wideband for sure would both be required at that power level though either way.

Ive run a Bosch 044 by itself to low 600rwhp in my turbo truck before running out of fuel. I now use an A1000 in it. The intank pump plus a Bosch 044, A1000, or my vettes auxillary Magnafuel 4303 would all serve you well as a boost activated second pump.

I ran the LPE pump + Bosch 044 to 899 whp on E85

So unless you have a huge motor making a ton of tq, it's probably enough pump for 1000+ on pump gas

I assume you would do this is parallel, not in series right?
