Default Airstrip/roll race tire help

So I got tired of trying to hook my 19s from a roll and need some help with tire choice. I ordered a set of CCW classics 17 x 11 rear and am in the age old 26" or 28" tire choosing nightmare. Currently I run a 305/35/19 NT05R which is roughly 27.5" tall and decided to make the switch to an MT as the car only comes out of the garage for races.

My car is cam/V3 making upper 600s at the wheels. I also have a TR6060 swap.

So do I go to the 305/45/17 ET Street R which I've seen people measure ~27.5" or the 275/40/17 and pick up a bit of a mechanical gear reduction?

I plan to add a set of AFRs and an MSD intake in the next month or so as well if the added power from that will make a difference in the equation

Mickey Thompson's website lists the 305/45/17 ET Street R as being 28.1" tall. Have people physically measured it as being 27.5"?

a few guys in the C6 section have said they measured it under 28" on an 11" wheel

That's a wide wheel for a 305. I know stock Z's come with 305/10.5 inch wheel. I'd be curious as to the height on C5z fronts, which are 9.5 inches.

Ben, I thought you were running this setup?

Definitely disappointed that they discontinued the 295/45-17's. That's all I've run in my vettes, street/strip. No need to change to hit the track. Mine have ~75 miles and no passes so the new owner will have the last set.

Mark,

For the street and runway: 18X11" wheel with a MT Street SS 305/40/18. It is 28" tall.

At the track: 17X10" wheel and with a Hoosier 28X10" slick.

haven't measure my ET street Rs but I can say I was dead hooking 760whp from a role with 19" nt05r with a nice burn out. but not05r had no hope once the car was >850whp. ET street R is huge step up though of course and if they are hot can hook up 3rd most of the time at 900/860.

I was tempted last time to buy the lower profile Hoosiers and get an effectively lower rear gear to wind out 5th gear a bit harder but did not hear a single good review using the hoosiers on the runway.

How do the ET street SS hook? Any traction around 40mph?

I wouldn't touch a m&h. Buddy of mine can't hook to save his life with his built c6. The r is an amazing tire, so is the s/s. Either will work great, all depends on the size you need. Hoosiers work good but they are much less stable at high speeds on the street.

How much power are you needing to hook at 40mph? Which gear will you be using?

Here's a 60 to 161mph pull against a built ZR1 with nitrous.

Which ET Street Rs are you using and what wheels are they on? Any pics?

I'm currently running a 35 on an 11" wheel and the sidewalk sits nice and doesn't look stretched. I know MTs can run a bit wide as well I figured I'd just repeat the setup.

I ran the 295/45/17 ET streets on my FBody too, they were the perfect tire

That looks perfect

With my NT05R at 20 psi, with a burnout they are spin city when the blower ramps up from a 60 roll in 2nd

I always went from 3rd gear in a roll and doubt the nt05r would have hooked 2nd ever on this car on the street/airstrip. my setup is pretty torquey.

I'm running 305/45/17 et street R on old style zr1 rims and they fit fine on my z51 car with z06 rear fenders. they are tucked in a bit but it helps them from rubbing when squatting.

we put my old hoosiers on my buddies 630whp car a long time ago and he could dead hook 2nd easy though at airstrip so I'd think something even stickier like an ET street R on a 680ish-whp car should be able to hook 2nd easy

Do you have any pictures of this setup on your car? Which Z06 fenders are you referring to? Something like L5s or the TPS Flared?
