Default ATI D1-SC Whine ----- the plane is about to take off

I know the D1-SC is louder than the P1-SC, but at idle or low speed you think a jet is taking off. My wife complains it wakes her up if I drive in the driveway after she's in bed!

On the other hand, I'm getting more and more people at stoplights asking me if it is supercharged, which is kind of cool.

Is this normal?

Thanks,

Tom

The blower whine is  My P1SC isn't as loud. Sometimes I get away with some unsuspecting Cobra thinking they will take me down.

I have whine, blowing, and rattle, on my P1 and the car drives fine and has for the past 4 or 5 months. I'm waiting for my FLPs to ship and to take it to Mike Norris for tuning and maybe modify the radiator. When I'm there I hope he tells me all the noises are normal :yesnod:

Its normal... another thing I like is that no one wants to run it from a stop light after hearing the S/C... ;)

It is not that loud IMO at idle.

My wife knows when I start my car, because the garage vibrates. I have to warm the engine and goose it a few times. The best thing about having a blower at 10lbs is when you shift! That is cool! The sound of the blow-off valve and watching my hood shudder. That turns heads.

I am going to post a vid soon so everyone can experience the rush. One video will be a modest launch--very modest. Otherwise I just smoke the rear. The other vid will be from 60mph to around 120mph. That is where this beast really pulls.

But to see the hood shake and the blow off action from 0 to say 90mph is pretty cool.

KEEP IN MIND--I WILL DO NOTHING ILLEGAL DURING THESE RUNS!

My good friend TAMU will be on the cam. Everyone knows he is law-abiding.

Last week I was at a car show for the MDA(Jerry's Kids). When I started my car I had a kid in a wheelchair pull up next to me and ask. "Pushing air?" I grinned and said yeah. He then asked me to wind it out.

He told me his dad had this 55 Chevy that was about 3 cars down but he liked the new Z's. He knew his cars! Cool kid!

I wish I could have lit the tires for him but we were surrounded by pedestrians.

If any of you Z owners get a chance to participate in a fundraiser like this--please attend. It really is a lot of fun and it is for a good cause.
-Jeff

My ATI set up must be a bit of an anomaly because you can barely hear the blower... There's a very quiet whistle at idle but thats about it.

Now the blow off valve at WOT , now that raise a few eyebrows

That's interesting. Want to trade :)

My wife complains that she can hear it when I am two blocks away.

And she's right. This is causing problems in my marriage

Is the belt a Gilmer drive belt (toothed belt)? Is the sound coming from the blower, or the belt/drive? I know that with a Roots blower, they drill small holes in the pulley, in the grooves, between the teeth, to let the air escape from between the belt/pulley, but don't know if you can do that on these. You may want to ask Mike Norris. BTW, the car looks good. Good Luck!

You guys sure you all have an ATI kit? One guys whines loudly, anothers doesn't. One guys eats belts, another says his doesn't. One guys overheats, and another says I drove mine all summer and it never ran hot. One guys sucks oil into the filter and aftercoolers, etc.

P1-SC on stock car = OK
D1-SC on modified car = NOT OK

I understand the difference, unfortunately, ATI didn't. They never should have advertised the D1-SC as a working kit for a modified engine.

It seems like guys with the P1-SC are having just as many problems.

You can request quiet or loud head units from ATI.
Sometimes they'll let you trade if you don't like the noise.

I had something interesting happen today to my ATI... the Idler underneath the main blower pully froze up today and burned up the bearings inside. I had to remove the S/C and replace them. Those bearings were shot to hell. I have a spare set now just in case. :(

I just finished at 9:45pm after finishing up the Dual Pod install and Spoiler removal. At least I have a working car for Dyno Day tomorrow. :)
