Good talking with you this weekend. I really need to get by and check out the SLC.
I haven't been doing much on the build lately. I did get two pieces back from being powder coated. This is Speedway Gray.

I'll try and catch this build thread up. I didn't do much on the car for the last 5 months and have finally made time to get back to it again.
Here is where the oil drains landed after multiple cuts. There will still be some final clearances cut to make sure the line doesn't rub on the frame.
Here is a picture from inside the frame rail showing that it will be free draining and maintaining a good slope.

Last week, I was able to begin welding on the mounts for the motor plate.
The cradle was then dropped one last time for final welding of the mounts to the frame, balancer installation, and a general cleaning.
Here is the 10% under-drive pulley compared to the normal diameter ATI. You can also see the 1/4" spacer ring required due to the 1/4" thick motor plate.

Here's the sloppy machinist's method for creating some 1/4" aluminum spacers to space the accessory bracket.
I also was able to cut a keyway in the spacer using a dremel and small file.
It felt good to finally see the balancer installed and know things are headed in the right direction.

You and me both. There have been so many times I have wished I could jump in and go for a drive.

I'm right there with you. Everytime I think I'm done with the car I find something I don't like or want to reroute and end up taking the car back apart. At this point I'm just going to rebuild my radiator support, coat everything and enjoy.

You've done a lot of work on yours and hopefully you will get to enjoy it soon. There are many other things I would like to do on mine but I feel like it will never run if I keep adding things to the list. I prefer to drive it and race it once it is running and sorted out.

Thanks for the updates!
so, you put a 1/4” spacer behind the balancer to space it out far enough to adjust for the motor plate. Very cool.
I’ve been wondering about how to mount my alternator and vacuum pump with the motor plate.
I sure wish I could get my car back from the chassis shop... sigh...

Yes, I called ATI and told them what I needed to do and they were ok with me spacing it out 0.250". I didn't want to make my own brackets and wasn't ready to ditch all the accessories yet so this was the solution. The small 1/4" aluminum spacers are for where the accessory bracket would have contacted the cylinder head. I'm also having 0.055" milled off the back side of the motor plate in the area of the water pump ports to account for gasket thickness. This will allow for a factory gasket between both the motor plate and block and motor plate and water pump. Some people have had issues with leaks when only using RTV.
It sounds like you are in chassis jail. I've heard it's not as bad as paint jail.

I couldn't stand how grimy the cradle was and how my hands ended up dirty any time I had to mess with it. Today I embarked on the mission to do something about it. I ended up removing almost everything (rack, brakes, oil cooler, coil-overs, and sway bar) but the effort was worth it. The Eagle One Etching Mag cleaner was a real time saver.

Yes, it would have taken an insane amount of time to get it clean without this product.
