Default ECS 1500 Belt Slip

H gents. Recently got a chance to meet up with Dr. Phil and finish the tune on my car. Car has stock blower pulley, restrictor removed a 10% 10 rib OD Innovators West crank pulley (6 rib belt).
First real pull car made 604whp @ 5500 rpm and 11psi and we pinched the belt. Came off in 3 pieces. It was a crappy 91.5 (no green belt avail.) There was a good amount of dust in the vicinity of the blower pulley as well.
Phil got a new belt on the car and we tried again. I was watching the belt as closely as possible and right around 5200 rpm I could see it starting to walk around, Phil could also see the boost dropping off so he aborted. There were other guys waiting and I still needed to get it home so we called it a day.
I have a couple questions. First, is my pulley set up destined for failure? It made 11psi @ 5500rpm most likely on its way to 15 or so?? Is that too much for a 6- rib set-up?
The belt seemed as though it was trying to 'crawl' over the rear lip of the pulley which to me indicates an alignment issue. We thought it was pretty close and tried our best to follow Bretts sticky w/ the laser. Could slip cause the belt to move around like that or is it definitely an alignment issue?
I'm not opposed to going direct drive on it if I have to, I know that's a viable option. I also know that people have made a lot more power than that without a direct drive as well.
Any thoughts, opinions appreciated.

my belt used to do the same, although the static alignment was fine, it wanted to move to the rear and would jump a rib or two once in a while and surely when it hit the rev limiter. i assume everything flexes a bit under load.

Sounds like you are bottoming out the tensioner which is causing the slip and also allowing the belt to walk. Possibly still may have an alignment issue, but the belt should hold just fine at those boost levels.
Check to make sure your belt is properly tensioned.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. When you say the tensioner is bottomed out, do you mean my belt is too short Doug? I believe there was some reference in the install instructions as to where the tensioner should be 'pointing'. I think we were pretty close but I can definitely look into that.
I guess I should just give you a call Doug.

imho, a good indication of belt length is the distance between upper belt and the belt on the manual pulley. the smaller it is, the more wrap you get. i have mine at about 1/4". an indication of good belt tension is when the belt between the splung tensioner and balancer is vertical.

Hi guys. Just took a couple pics regarding the distance between my blower pulley and manual tensioner. There's about an inch gap between them. If I put a longer belt on will there be any room left for travel on the manual tensioner? I feel like I will be bottoming it out with a longer belt. I'll get a couple pics of the auto tensioner when I get it on the lift.

I mean that the belt is too long or the manual adjustment under the head unit pulley is not adjusted enough. Thus making the tensioner rest on it's stop, releasing all tension on the belt, when you are in the higher RPM's.

From the picture you posted you most likely need to adjust the fixed idler under the head unit pulley tighter so the tensioner has more travel to work with.

You want the spring tensioner to be at least half way threw it's travel.

Thanks for chiming in Doug. I'll get it up on the lift and get a better look at where my tensioner is at. I have some belts that I thought were too tight that I may give a shot.
Thanks again.

Thanks again for the reply romandian. I will get a couple shots from under the car so you guys can see where the spring tensioner is at. Then you can get a better idea of how the entire system looks. I’m in the middle of a long distance move so the car has kind of taken the back burner.
