Default Need advice on decent balancer to use with A&A supercharger

Preferably from those that have had a centrifugal SC kit for a while, please opine on balancers that worked and ones that failed.

I will spend what I need to in order to have a harmonic balancer that will hold up to the stress of driving a supercharger, but do not want to needlessly overspend just to have the BEST.

Thank you!

I would recommend getting the Innovators West that is exclusively A&A's design. I'm a dealer for A&A but that's not the reason behind the recommendation. If you get theirs, you can run their drive later on if you choose. Without their specific balancer, you cannot run their drive later if you choose. If you're 100% sure that you'll never want a drive then you can consider others.

innovators west is a good balancer, pricey but worth it... I've had one on my car for a few years and no problems, I agree with Bret and you might as well get an overdrive and 8 or 10 ribs as well if you think you will ever upgrade the belt drive that way you don't have to buy the balancer again

I've been running a summit racing 2501c or something like that for years with no issues. It will run a 6 rib or 8 rib belt. About $200 if I remember right.

Yeah, well this isn’t a cutlass I’m sure.

In all seriousness, if I'm not mistaken, the extra 2 ribs on that balancer go rearward instead of forward. 2 more forward ribs is what's needed for going to 8 rib. We may have talked about this in the past. Do you know if your spare 2 ribs go forward or rearward? I've only discovered 2 aftermarket balancers that have the extra 2 ribs going forward and all of the rest went rearward.

Blue ***** (that's my boy) was correct, summit has belt on front so 2 ribs towards the engine are not used. Of course this only matters if you are going to run all out and need an 8 rib belt. I'm at 12 #'s and seem fine with a 6 rib. So it depends on what you really need.

Few hundred miles on a 10% od innovators west with the new a&a flip drive setup that uses two belts. No issue with the balancer so far. It looked really pretty nib too, was a shame its hidden after install.

I had a brand new ACdelco balancer installed. Running a 3.6 pulley at 11psi for over 5k miles with no problems. The shop that did my install hasn't had any problems with basic supercharger builds.

I using an ATI, Stock size. Wish I would havew planned ahead and did an 8 rib inovators west but my set up is working great(6 rib 3.6 pulley)with no slipping. Guess we'll see what happens with the 3.4 this winter.

Gents, thanks for all of the feedback. For what I am building, I went with a Powerbond stock replacement. I asked Andy about it and he thought it should be fine for a relatively mild build such as mine. I do not plan on going much higher than 550 whp as IMO this is the level that will really start increasing the chances of a piston/rod failure. If it fails, I will be sure to post it here.

I think you should plan for the future. 550 isnt very much and you might decide to up the ante later on. Just a thought.

If I do that, it will be forged short block (I do not want to risk total destruction of the block and crank) and upgraded clutch and drivetrain parts - so I could upgrade at that point. Time will tell though - you are correct that we always seem to want more!

How has it held up? Been following your youtube for a while, wondering how the balancer heled up and if you changed it which did you go with. Cheers

I am curious as well, since I just bought the Powerbond balancer under the recommendation, and good reviews. I will most likely be installing it this weekend, and pining the crank for my V3 Si install.

Great to hear, this is the pulley I went with as well. After watching a few of your videos, I will have a pretty close set up to yours. Stock exhaust manifolds, and cats, 3.6 pulley, and a cat back. But, I went with a Dewitts cut down radiator and matching spal fans to try and avoid lowering the radiator support. My driveway is already unfriendly enough to low cars.
