Default NX 150 shot wet system

Hello

I have just got a 150 shot wet system installed on my 99 c5.

My dealer says I do not have to do anything about the ignition ???
Is that true, he tells me only to runoctan booster every time I use nitrous instead?????

But I have heard you should take the ignition back but how much ???? (2 - 6 degreeas or???) And how do you do that ???

For a stock car (not H&C) you should not have to retard timing. You will have to run a higher octane of gas though. If you retard the timing you can run pump fuel without pinging. If you go any bigger I would definitly retard timing. You will also have to change your plugs to copper. Platnums don't like nitrous.

Thanx for the reply

Maybe I should trust my dealer then, yes it is stock. Good to hear, what do you think about my A4 gearbox with 150 shot nitrous and ET streets??

torque converter would help. 2:73 are a little on the short side. If you are serious about racing I would go with at least a 3:42.

Yes, that is my thougths too, but I will see first what times I can achieve with just nitrous first. Then my plans are to maybe go for 3.90 or even 4.10 gears.

How much is it to buy, hard to find in Sweden, will take gears directly from the states in that case.

By the way, how much is the topspeed reduced to with 3.90 or 4.10 gears ?? Do you know where to find a table for that ???

Do you think the A4 gearbox will break or ?????

I am a beginner in dragging so that's why I have so many questions and we don't have as big a aftermarket here in Sweden as you have in the states.

thanx for the help

You will need to upgrade your trans.... trust me! If you put in a convertor, gears and start hammering on it, the trans will fail pretty quick. Mine lasted less than a month when I started my upgrades.

Hi Tommy, hello to Sweden :seeya

As allready had been said with stock engine you need no timing retard.
Just put in cooler plugs!!!

I would not shorter gears than 3.73.
I have 3.42 and will never step up to shorter gears as I would hate them when driving on our Autobahn.

do you plan to get MT streets or at least drag radials??
If not, you would get no traction with that short gears, also.
A TC is a must mod for A4´s.
And if you wanna spray 150 shot often, get a strong tranny!!

Hello Austria

Yep, I changed the plugs immediately so thats OK and MT streets are on their way already.

Yes a torque converter maybe I have to invest in but that will be next spring when I have done some testruns before, now I am thinking about installing a line lock so I can warm the MT streets enough... :D

I use my Vette a lot in the summers so maybe 3.42 or 3.73 is enough then.

As long as you have high quality gas, retarding your timing is somewhat optional. You will theoretically gain more power by retarding the timing, since the ignition timing is calibrated for natural air. Once you add N2O in the mix, the mixture will burn faster and therefore you don't need as much timing advance. There are a couple ways of retarding it a few degrees, easiest is the resistor in the IAT sensor trick.

Hello again Michael

When changing the gears from 2.73 to 3.42, how do you re-calibrate the speedometer and tripmeter to get them accurate again ????

Are there any more things one should think about when changing gears ???

Greatful for tips, what did you pay for your 3.42 gears, just curious to know if the price I got is good or bad.

Regards

Tommy

PS. The winter is too long here which results in too much time to modify the Vette which equals a very negative cash flow

Tommy, the gears were about 950$, I think.
I program for the gears with LS1 edit.

Hey Tommy take a look at my signiture. It sounds like I am where you want to go. Gears, Nitrous. Torge converter. Im with the rest of the group on this post, NGK plugs TR6 are copper colder plugs. They are common import plugs. Good for Nitrous. An example of a set that needs retard = a 250 twostage on my LT1 with single turbo, Jacobs Mastermind to retard on the nitrous and a Apexi electonic boost control and timing retard for the turbo. 150 will not need. I have run my car to 168 MPH with the 390s and was not at redline, don't remember RPM, too busy watching road and Z06 next to me.

Hi Tommy

If your car is an European C5 then you dont have the 2.73 gear I am sure you have the 3.15

BTW have you done a dyno on your car after the NX system was installed.

Is it any point in changing between 3.15 and 3.42 then ???? Maybe it is just a waste of money then because it is quite expensive ???

3:15 are okay with a big power added. 3:42 are perfect for a poweradded. Anything deeper than 3:42s (with a power added)is a waste unless you are running slicks, because you will never hook.

As ICULUKN-C5 said, do it, if you run DR or MT`s at the track.
Or if you spray it from a roll (at the streets).
If not, then stay with the 3.15.

I changed from the 3:15's to the 3:42's. What a SOTP difference. BUT I did have to go to the BFG drag radials to get any traction at the local drag strip. :D

Default Thanx everybody

Just have to say

THANK YOU for having the energy to keep answering my stupid questions.

As a beginner it is very helpful to get tips and advice from you guys that have the experience and knowledge about these things.

So thank you, I am sure I will have more questions during my hunt for a faster car...

/Tommy
