Default First ever track visit.....A&A z06 goodness.....

Ive had fast cars for 10 plus years. Finally went to the track today after all those years. Short story, A&A TI, cam only c5z that made 817. I babied it out of the hole. Every time. 2.3 60 foots , best was 1.9(only did that once launced at 3.5k and slipped it). I didnt want to break the rear as I drove it there and its stock. It does have the pfadt trans mount and ecs brace. Running brand new bilstiens (these are crap on the drag strip with 800 plus) on R888s. I couldn't ever hook in 2nd. AT ALL. Sucked. I even took 8 degrees of timing out from 2.5k to 7k, same results. Dropped the tires to 15 psi from the original 30 psi. Stil nothing. Mad wheel hop until 3rd gear. Now that Im thinking about it, I should have short shifting into 3rd. Eh...

Any way, Tons of fun! Only 72 bucks and I got 10 runs in.

My first ever track run;
60...3.096
330...3.096
330...7.065
1/8...9.846
mph...94.93
1000...12.019
1/4...13.951@110 LOL

best time was 11.2 and best mph was 136

Best run
60'... 1.9
330...5.1
330... 7.5
mph...104.34
1000...9.5
1/4...11.249@134.48

The car has a ton more in it. Just not from me and the current set up

I had a similar experience with r888's when my car was n/a, I sold them before the blower went on... some people swear by them but they did not work for me

I love my r888rs even with the blower on the street. I.wouldnt expect a small stiff sidewall to do anything for you at the drag strip though.

When I first got the car done this year they hooked everytime in 2nd at 10 degrees wide open. After the dyno they would hook most of the time at 18 degrees (where it made 817). That was on the original shocks. The passenger rear shock blew out so I did a quick replacement with bilstiens all around for the rest of the year. Now it doesn't hook at all until 3rd, even on the street at WOT.

My original guess was 137@10.7 babying out of the hole. I never planned to launch it, but I'm pretty bummed that I couldn't even let it WOT in 2nd gear. I would have easily hit that given traction on 2nd gear on up.

The people that swear by that must make 500 on the blower with 6psi peak lol

Yeah, it wheeled hop bad until 3rd yeara no matter what I tried. I bought the r888s based on reviews i saw here with centri cars. I'm going to try Viking cooler overs double adjustable before new tires. I feel the bilstiens are just over powered. Even though the r888s are not a drag radials I still should be able to hook in 2nd at the track

My car hooked alot better on the street on the orginal shocks before one blew out. I also raised the rear a little on the lowering bolts as it was quit low.

does adjusting the lowering bolts affect the traction much? I may try to lower all the down like it was and see if it hooks better lok it dod before.

If you’re worried about blowing your stock diff, you should not let the car wheel hop, especially through 2 gears. I blew my stock diff just from half gear wheel hop with stock power.

did you have the alignment done after adjusting the ride height?... if so what specs did you have it set to?

Im not worried about blowing up the diff, I was taking it easy and got out of it when it hopped. Im going to rent a trailer and launch it at the end of octber. Getting the diff built this winter so I dont care if i break it at the end of the year.

I never go the alignment done after I raised it.

My supercharged ZO6 would not hook at all on 5LBs of boost, with R888s. Mine has a stock long block, with headers, high flow cats, B&B axle back. And a tune.

I didnt see this mentioned anywhere but what size are the R888? They really aren’t designed for straight line acceleration, they’re designed to handle well.

I think you just need more seat time and an alignment once you set your ride height where you want it.

The bilsteins may not be the best shock for high hp drag use but I doubt they are your largest issue. There are plenty of guys on stock C5Z and C6Z shocks and springs that are making great times at the track. I don’t know the specifics on the bilsteins but they cant be valved that much more aggressively than the oem shocks.

Sometimes the only nut you need to turn is the one holding the wheel.

They are 305/35/18. I would agree with you but I cant even hook in second. At all. I took 8 degrees out and it still wouldnt hook.

Proper tires is the number #1 change you should make before anything else.
This will contribute the most to traction before any other mod.

That's crazy because I have 305/30/19 r888r on my car that make 655/557 and it hooks perfectly fine i 2nd. Stock suspension, just lowered a little on stock bolts.

Incorrect. Suspension and alignment will.

When I had the stock, original, worn out shocks it hooked pretty good in second lol. I bought the bilstiens to get back on the road quick. Buying the viking coil over was always the plan, just not the budget at the time.

The bilstiens are fantastic for driving daily and handling, just not up to the task of putting down my power.

No. They are the g8 or sport, the ones for lowered cars. When I blew out the right rear one the dyno, I wanted to replace all four to be safe since they were all original. The bilstiens were only a little over 400 so I thought why not try them.

Those bilsteins may be a bit unforgiving and dont allow your car to squat but I honestly think a set of tires with a softer sidewall will completely change your track experience.

295-50-16 Hoosier Drag radial. I’ve got a set under my car with factory fenders . 16X10 rim with an 8 inch backspacing. It appears as if I could go to 8 1/2 MAX !!! 8 1/4 would be ideal.
