Default Turbo for stock block

Is a precision 6466 a good turbo for a LS6? Its a t4 flange and is in my local classifieds.

Thanks

TWO 6466s would be good for a 5.7L V8. A single 6466 makes good power on a 4 cylinder but will run out of steam fast on a 5.7L V8.

A 7175 or something similar is the smallest I would recommend for a 5.7L.

Btw, thanks both of you for the info. I will steer clear from that classified add.

What are your goals for this project? What turbo kit are you using, custom fabricated?

Yes I want to fab everything myself. I was looking at Motion race works LS1 builder kit (flanges, pipe bends, v-bands) LS9 Headgaskets, ARP head studs.

I go drag race about 10 times a summer. Its mostly street driven. Id like around 6-700 hp with room to grow. If things break, id like to build a 6.0 L block and reuse the kit im going to build.

I think that pretty much sums it up. Ohh id like to use my stock TI catback as well.

Thanks

The upper limit for your combo with a PT88 will be right around 900 to 1000 rwhp. As long as you are happy with being limited to this power level, it should fit your goals. My understanding is backpressure begins to be an issue in the 900 to 1000 range. It depends on what your overall combo is regarding max power with this turbo. Also, be sure to consider whether upgrading to a larger turbo down the road will require revisions to the turbo kit.

I went a similar route and you can save some money by using oem manifolds or hooker manifolds flipped from side to side with v bands welded on them. Most of the issues come from fitting the radiator, fans and turbo in front of the motor. There is not a ton of room there; I moved my radiator as far forward as possible and Im still fighting little issues with getting everything crammed in there. I would definitely say go with a T6 flange/merge collector and use a T6 to T4 adapter for now, this way you dont have to revise your hot side if/when you go bigger. Getting a 4” downpipe out the back is no simple task either so I went straight out the hood with mine to minimize backpressure.

Good luck with your project and feel free to reach out if you want to see anything from my setup or if you want any more info on what I’ve tried that didnt work and what I’ve tried that did.

I got a look at the new turbo manifolds from hooker at carlisle this year and it really looks like a nice setup that will save you time and $ in the long run.

I also just saw an upgraded ttix with bigger tubos and 3" downpipes go for 4k which made me cry. such a smoking deal that you won't see often.

for that modest hp level I'd look at small twins as they will respond nicely and scale well if you decide to get greedy.

huron kit is only 6k or so new which is pretty hard to beat and will run 600 - 1k hp without suffering from poor spool response.

If you are just wanting to do the work as a project that's cool but don't forget about centri blowers. You can get a centri kit priced well and make the power you want and more. Especially when A&A does a used/used kit for $1400 off. Its hard to beat.

I really want to build this myself over the winter. I have to pull a head to repair a spsrk plug hole i screwed up so might as well prep for boost with ls9 gaskets and head studs.

I thoughttabout building s remote twin setup but im now leaning yo a single front mount.

The rear mount is attractive as is less of a headach to get to the turbos VS along the bell housing.

A single front can be built with maintenmace in mind as well.

Its a hard choice as rear twins always sound great! I wanna go fast, but i dont necessarily need to squeez out every single ponie!

Have any of you driven a rear twin setup or a front single?

For fuel i was thinking of getting the A& A kit vs sourcing a C6 fuel tank and dropping the tranny again (no thanks, was very unpleasant to do alone)

For that much money you are better off having Brett build you a dual pump hanger that fits inside the OEM tank. It's a much cleaner setup, IMO, than any of those external pump setups.

Whos Brett??

Will the gas tanks need to be dropped in order to install his kit? I agree that a clean install along with a quieter system is a lot more attractive
What will his system support?
Link please.

Thanks

I have a perfectly good, but used, T4 S476/87 from Forced Inductions that I could probably sell you if you’re interested.
