Default My Ls1 is toast, help picking new engine please

Im not sure what happened but I think my oil pump went out and I'm pretty sure my engine is toast. It's making a lot of noise that I'm sure is not good. This is in a 99 coupe. So I'll get this out there 1st,I have a Kenne Bell supercharger on it and I want to keep it,I know it had not so great reviews but I've been right at 600rwhp since I had A&A install it 7-8 yrs ago, think my car had 50,000 mikes on it when installed, now at 110,000 mi. I'd like to get more HP but I don't want to break the bank either. What's a good combination that could get me up to like 750rwhp,if at all possible with the KB. Should I go LS6,Ls2 or ?

So I have have a vast amount of experience with the Kenne Bell blower. I was one of the suckers that jumped on that wagon when they were first released and then spent years trying to really make it work or get any real power out of it.. With that said, if you are happy with the blower, great. But I do not believe you will see 750whp with that blower regardless of what engine you build.

With that aside, if you would like to discuss an engine build, feel free to shoot me a PM. I can take good care of you.

I also have a KB blower on my 03Z how much boost are you running? I am only at 7LBS and getting 525whp. I like the instant power of the KB.

Contact Brett Bradbury(BlownBlueZ06) if you need parts and advice for the build and talk to Mike Van Paris at the Race Engine Shop to get a built motor done right.

The guy who posted before me is right though, I highly doubt you will see 750whp out of that heat pump called a Kenne Bell blower. Swap to a centri blower and enjoy the cool IATs.

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably not do much on my car till early spring, and then start getting serious about what I'll do. I'm hoping to get as much power as I can,and just be happy with it. Do you think 700 rwhp is possible? I was just over 600 but wanted more. I was running 10lbs with meth, plus a cam. I wasn't under power at all, just heard something different, thought I had a belt coming apart, got to where I was going popped the hood to check the belt and it was fine, started the car and got zero oil pressure, shut it off checked the oil and it was right where it's supposed to be. Started driving home and could feel something wasn't right, oil pressure was ok as I was driving but when I let off the gas it would drop to about 20lbs. I was about a 1/4 mile from home and my car started sounding like a really bad exhaust leak...I mean really bad one.

If you have a solution that is positive then chime in.
People do not have to make Snyde comments and bash people for the choice they made. Will the system ever put out more than 600-650? Likely not but that’s not what everyone is looking for. Sorry to the guys who bought the system because it was over hyped but all of us that own it and like it shouldn’t have to be afraid to mention it on here when looking for help.
I personally try not to because all the naysayers come out of the wood work each time and bash the heck out of me and my choice. That’s not what this place should be about. We are all Corvette lovers. Let’s try and help each other out.

Should I have made the comment I did in this thread?
Probably not but........I knew someone would come in being an a$$ sorry about that.

and how are you helping??... I think you misunderstood what silver408z meant anyway, basically he was saying that since Bret's name was mentioned that there isn't much else that needs to be said because he can take care of everything... no one bashed anything at all you just got defensive over nothing

One of the good guys on here said I might of just broke a valve spring,I'm hoping that is what it is,I'll check it this afternoon. So for a quick diagnosis,if it was a valve spring, would that maybe make my oil pressure vary as I'm giving it throttle....or am I just hoping to get lucky. If it is a valve spring what should I do other than replacing it.....take the head off to make sure nothing went into the cylinder? Or if I find all the pieces just put a new one on? I'll update after I pull the valve cover.

The oil pressure will always vary from idle to driving RPM. The sound you’re discribing likely is a top end issue. Hopefully you’ll find a rocker or valve spring issue.

that pretty much sounds like it,I have 17/8" headers so it's a little louder. So I don't see any broken springs, but it looks like the valve on the passenger side front end seems really loose,I've cranked it over a few times and that one seems to stay pretty loose.

maybe a collapsed or rotated lifter... pull the rocker and pushrod on that valve and take a look down in the lifter bore

I turned the motor over a little bit and that rocker was fine. I’ll try to post the sound it’s making. I’m thinking it’s a lifter, but I don’t know a lot about engines.
