Default IW 8 rib balancer rubbing on tensioner

I'm wondering if I dont have the balancer pulled onto the crank all the way? It's a tight fit for a picture, but its rubbing on the factory tensioner bracket just barely on the edge of the balancer.

It looks like even if I didnt have the balancer on all the way, it would pull the belt rearward off the edge of the tensioner pulley.

Hmmm, I just had a new OEM water pump put on. Gaskets look pretty thick. Possibility? I didn't notice this before so I'm not sure how long it's been rubbing.

Edit: I'm thinking it's not the waterpump. I was wrong, just brainstorming.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you with my ATI balancer it sticks off the crank snout 5.3 mm which is not within factory specs. I guess I'm gonna have to pull it all apart again and reinstall the balancer with no front cover on it to see where the problem is, but I have to wait till the tools I had to order get here next week

Screw it. Took a grinder to the high spot where it was rubbing. All the spacers are in the correct place. Gonna bolt it on for now and maybe here soon get a laser aligner. I need it back together and if it doesn't throw the belt or rub I'll run it. I took vacation days for the 8th coming up to hit the drag strip with my wife. I need to get this thing done lol

This is the standard IW 8 rib balancer right, not the secondary drive kit / balancer from A&A?

What kind of noise was it making? Horrible grinding noise?

is it touching the bracket of the tensioner or the body?... that's weird, I've had 2 different 10 rib innovators balancers with an a&a bracket and never ran into that problem... I would definitely get a laser tool regardless that way you can double check if you ever have to replace or buy new parts... do you have 8 rib blower bracket spacers?... maybe you need to get those to accomodate for the wider balancer

Standard 8 rib. It's not touching the bracket. It was rubbing on the OEM tensioner body itself. There was a raised spot in the casting. I just grinded that flat. Shoulda took a pic. I'll see if I can get one. Here's a pic of where it was rubbing. Couldn't hear it at all.

Rubbing on front of balancer, back of tensioner. Not rubbing on any of the brackets, just that one spot

do you have the 8 rib spacers and idlers for your bracket though?... I'm thinking that may have been the cause of your issue but if gringing the tensioner body worked then roll with it until you convert everything else over to 8 rib... I still think it's a good idea to check belt alignment though just to make sure everything is dead on and avoid any belt issues

Shitty pic. You can see the shiny part that I took a grinder too and also rounded the edge.

Ya I'll check. Since I'm only using 6 ribs for now, I dont need any spacers I believe until I convert everything to 8 rib.

What sucks is I put a new Turn 1 power steering pump on and a line lock. Had it all back together and spotted that just by accident. Took a lot of **** back out to try and fix it.

Could be having a brain fart so I apologize in advance but Im pretty sure with you running the 8 rib balancer you do need to run the 8 rib spacers to keep everything in alignment even if you are only using only 6 of the 8 ribs at the moment.
