I'm confused, isn't the line that goes to the air fiter the only way that oil could get sucked into the intake? From the picture that line has nothing to stop oil from being sucked in. I talked to Andy about this and that is where he said to put the seperator.
The PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) line into the throttle body is where engine vacuum pulls air fumes from the crankcase. The line from the air filter is where fresh air flows into the crankcase. Andy does have a point, since when the engine is under boost there will be more blow-by, and since boost closes the PCV or check valve line into the throttle body, the only place for blow-by to go is the line towards the air filter.

So do we need to reverse the connections....put the can in the line to the air filter?

No. There is a little oil that shows up in front of the blower, but the vast majority enters through the throttle body vacuum. From what I've observed, the oil trail goes from throttle body to cylinder 7. Oil 'pools' in the bottom of the intake manifold until lots of air suddenly blows through.

We might want to keep an eye for oil in the breather line to the intake, per Andy's suggestion of the clear air/oil separator in the line. I'm just going to check the inside of the filter for oil occasionally.

What kind of Oil catch can do you have? Does it have a filter element in it? The oil is in vapor form and would be like steam in the shower. If you have nothing to strain out the oil it may be going in the intake all the same.

Mine is just like the one in the picture above (Cambell Hausfield) it does have a filter element in it. When i talked to Andy about this he told me that the hose going to the air filter is the only way that oil could be drawn into the motor. That is why i'm kinda confused about the setup in the picture.

Only under boost. Otherwise the PCV system works normally under vacuum and can suck Oil in. This is a problem for LS1s whether it be a FI and NA .

Also, to avoid the straw effect when the filter is saturated, I have reversed the air flow thru the CH oil catch can. You see when the air filter is used as designed on an air compressor the idea is to catch dropplets of water and dust. But to separate oil vapor you want the air to enter the center hole and strain out the oil and drip down into the plastic bowl and have the air continue out the perimeter hole.

UPS delivered my catch can from Accurate Machine Works on Friday. Now I need to find a check valve.

I'm more confused on this issue than ever.

If you go with the LPE system, do you also need a check valve?

Are the ATI and Maggies under the same principles, since the ATI boosts the air before it ever enters the front of the intake, whereas the Maggie boosts it farther down the line?

Argh??????????????
