Is the wave dying?
You, Stu and Jamey gotten together recently?

Saw each other at the Rolex 24. He was locked out of his car so I offered to steal it. Saw Jami and her new C6 (for just a blink) at a restaurant during the race. Two beautiful cars!!!
I'm trying to get them to adopt me.
The two big reasons
1. The 0% interest got people into these cars that normally would not have been
and
2. The prices have dropped on C4's and C5's to the point that people are buying them because the Corvette is Cool or fast or an attention getter or .....not because the Corvette is a Corvette.
"Corvette people" have always waved and will always wave. It has nothing to do with wanting to draw attention to the fact you have a Corvette, if that was the case we would wave at everyone not just fellow vetters.
I wave because it's tradition, I wave because I want to recognize the other person for making a good decision and helping to keep the car alive and lastly I wave because as a Corvette driver I will welcome them as my friend. That has not let me down. Yes there are many Vette owners I think are absolute tools but more often then not I have quite a bit in common with them and in many cases have the same goal.
To keep the heritage of the Vette alive and to contuinue the comroderie that has been alive in the world of Vette's since 1953
So 400hp when/if I ever see you on the road I'm going to wave, not because I like myself so much that I want to make you look at me but because I love this car and everything it stands for

Now, about those quotes. The astute will notice that they didn't come from this thread. In fact, they didn't even come from this forum, nor are they about Corvettes, and that's the point... those quotes are just random snippets from different car-related groups on usenet yet they read just like the "XYZs never wave" threads that come up here just about every week.
Just about every sports car, every two seater, and a ton of other cars, have a wave. Waving is not unique to Corvettes, nor was it brought into existence with the birth of Corvettes. Waving is just something car owners do, or don't do as they see fit.
The sports car wave is just a subset of the car enthusiast's wave, as the Corvette wave is to the sports car wave. For what it matters, I don't confine my waving to one particular car but if no-one waves back, why should I care? - as far as I know, expressing appreciation to someone else doesn't require reciprocal validation in order to validate that action.
IMHO, 400hp doesn't have to wave if he doesn't want to. Not waving doesn't make him less deserving of a Corvette than someone else, it just means that he is exercising his free will. You don't have to agree with him, but at least he's made up his own mind.
Bottom line. I wave but Why are so many people so riled up about this subject? After being waved at a couple of times, someone will get the message if they want to. For those that want to put instructions in the owner's manual, besides the fact that few actually read their manual, isn't that advocating behaviour that is the antithesis of a tradition? Anyway, you can increase the number of waves you get by acknowledging that you can wave at just about any car on the road!
Some people wave. Some people don't. If they wave at you, great. If they don't, please try to deal with it and learn to toughen up as life holds far worse things in store for you than the lack of a hand gesture.

P.S. You are also correct in pointing out that Corvette owners did not originate and do not own the "wave". That's like saying lets all give the Corvette thumbs up.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
If you will actually read my original posts on this topic, you will see that I stated that I do, in fact, wave back out of courtesy, and that I just don't feel the need to initiate what forum members refer to as the Corvette wave. Don't take my word for it. Look it up. Do I have to go back and quote these replies? In fact, I stated that I don't just limit my waves to Corvettes. We wave to all cars that wave to us and especially to kids, only an *** wouldn't wave to a kid.
Forum members are also quick to bash anyone in a Japanese car, profiling all as ricers. I said it before, and I will say it again, most of the people we run into in Japanese cars give us the thumbs up and a big grin. Why alienate people because they don't drive a Corvette? Whats that about? Once again, I am a car enthusiast, not just a Corvette enthusiast.
Just don't try to ram all of your self righteous bull$hit down my throat because, unlike a lot of people here, I have a mind of my own and will not agree just to be popular. Get over it and get over yourselves.
400hp for President.

There was also a mention that a lot of "non-Corvette people" are getting into these cars because of finance incentives and what not. I'd like to remind everyone that this is the United States and if you walk into a Chevy dealer with the right amount of coin or credit, a Corvette is yours, period. You don't have to have a certain frame of mind, type of attitude, Y-chromosome, etc. to drive one. If someone buys a car as a status symbol and never even lifts the hood, that's their prerogative. If the only time they lift their hand from the steering wheel is to dial a cell phone, that's their business. It's not for any of us to say who is or is not "deserving" of a Corvette, Chevette, Yugo or Radio Flyer wagon and it's certainly not for any of us to criticize how others choose to live their lives in relation to their cars.
People calling 400hp a jerk, telling him "he doesn't understand" or that he "has serious issues", etc. is completely out of line. He doesn't have to "understand" to drive a Vette. And in fairness, 400hp did enough on his end to throw gasoline on the fire. It's not his place to infer, however subliminally and without name calling, that those who choose to be passionate about their vehicle or a tradition surrounding it are somehow a few sandwiches shy of a picnic or shouldn't be discussing/debating a given issue.
Folks on this board ARE passionate about their cars...that's why we're here. So it stands to reason that you're going to get some very strong opinions. Let's just not let it get carried away.
