My 04 C-5 A-4 is mechanically pure stock. When I accelerate at WOT it always shifts by itself clean and sharp and even gives me a little wheel chirp going into second gear.
How many of you shift your A-4s manually? Does it hurt anything to manually shift it? Will it wear out faster if you do?
If you guys have been doing it. How many miles have passed since you started.
I have been wondering the same thing but was not willing to try it on a long term basis. Do you know if anyone sells an aftermarket type that would be designed for such duty?
At wot I let it shift itself at 6000 rpm. Sometimes I will put it in 2nd to keep it from downshifting to 1st when not wanted. When these transmissions are put in 2nd they will not kick down to 1st when you give it the gas.

It's a sports car - shift away!
I shift ALL the time - B&M Shift Kit and Predator shift firm-up. 7000 miles and nothing has broken with almost 500rwhp pumping through it.
Keep an eye on your trans temp and you'll be fine.

Thanks for this post...I've wondered the same thing...
You guys that go WOT...do you find yourself easing back on the pedal as you approach redline or do you keep the pedal down no matter what and wait for it to shift to the next gear?

Me too... I love letting the car get sideways when shifting... Doesn't have to be a full throttle run, just stepping into the gas hard enough to feel the rear tires smoke....
It's not the best idea in my opinion, i used to do it all the time in my 93' A4 and the tranny started shifting really hard (slamming gears). I just wished that car was an 6 speed at the time! Glad i got my c5 now
If you set the selector in 2 it will start in second gear. I read this last year, and checked it for myself. If you set it at 3 or D it will start in first and not shift above third or fourth gear.

I KNEW IT!!! You A4 guys that give us 6 speed guys the gears. The true is out!!!!! You guys all wish you had 6 speeds. rofl:
I wish I had a six speed. Though my auto has it's advantages, I can't help but shift that so I might as have two more gears and an extra pedal. Though I have a different tranny, I have been shifting my c4 and 97,000 miles no probs.
