Default Paint your calipers? Need advice....

I want to paint my calipers when I install my new Sways and Ceramic pads, but other Vette owners here at work said that their's peeled over time. The local Autozone has a spray type called HTP that says it's made for calipers and rotors. Will this work, or is their something else I should use? Any special prepping I should do?

How have your calipers held up over time? Any peeling? I also intend on painting the hub of the rotors while I'm at it. I'd apreciate any tips or hints....

Thanks guys, just want this to look right and stay that way for a while.

I painted mine with Rustoleum and not even a hint of peeling. And have never heard of any peeling either. Just a fear tactic on someone's part I figure.

I used VHT that I bought from AutoZone and the paint stayed on fine, my problem is brake dust that I can't get off of them!

G2 epoxy paint is brush on and cleans up nicely with soap and brush. The problem I have and I believe is universal for painted calipers is the dumb-Azz mechanics slamming the wheels against the calipers when R&R the wheels. Now I have to touch up the chips.

I used the caliper painting kit from Duplicolor....worked great! I know many guys who have used Rustoleum products too! I would recomend using a brush to apply.....much easier than trying to spray. Actually, my son used a spray engine enamel sprayed into the top cap, and then brushed on for his car, and it worked very well too! Have fun! The key is the preparation. make sure the caliper is free from dirt or grease.

I used Duplicolor paint kit. It has held up for 8 months now. Like mojoman says preparation is the key.

I just got my FOLIA TEC Kit in the mail and after reading the directions, the max heat is 300F. Is that correct?

Anyone else use the Folia tech kit and any advice on how they compare to the other kits?

Hope I didnt hijack the thread but from my research I found that the FOLIA tech was highly recommended but now I like to really find out the pros and cons before i start doing this project.

Also, is it ok to paint the calipers in this type of weather. Example during the winter time in my garage? Or shall I wait till summer time?

Thanks.

The VHT paint that Autozone sell says it'll handle 900 degrees. I have no idea how hot the calipers/rotors can get, so that's a good question to ask. They may get hotter than 300.... The other thing is that the VHT says to paint it at a temp higher than 70F... and I hate waiting that long!!! Time to get the heater warmed up!

I used this. Did about 7 (light to medium) coats, 10-15 minutes in between (depending on humidity/heat). Cals look powder coated and haven't had issues yet. Just do it. You can always redue or touch up. I was nervous at first too, but sometime you gotta say WTF. Good luck!

I painted mine using vht they have not chipped but one got somthing on it and faded I'm going to redo them this spring along with the brackets this time. Also time for new pads and Brembo slotted and drilled rotors should make a big improvment.

when spray painting them on how do you avoid spraying the brake pads? I've seen some just spray paint em, and some magically avoid them...

For me "on" meant, not disconnected from the brake line (to avoid having to bleed them later). I just covered the inside of the wheel well, etc. and used a small step stool to rest the cal on while painted it. Hope this helps.

I went the powder coat route! These have over 50K miles and lots of wash jobs and look like the day I put them on!

Just done mine also. Took out the two 21mm bolts from the mounting brakets. Tapped off areas that I did not want painted also covered wheel well and suspension parts with newspaper. Set the caliper on a box in the wheel well and sprayed the caliper
Four or five thin coats looked real good.
Also installed drill and sloted rotors at the same time.
Looks great.

That's what I used.... Been 2 years, still looks great. Taped everything off and sprayed them with about 8 coats. Then used fine sandpaper on a block to clean the letters.
Good Luck...
