A 4 Post Lift May Cause Brain Damage
Some of you may know that last fall I made an unsuccessful attempt on my life by walking @ full gait into one of the ramps on my lift. This split the top of my head open about 5 inches wide all the way down to my skull and fractured it. After many visits and MRI's my Doctors say I'm fine. Click on the link below to see what I have spent the last few nights working on. Janet says if we ever roll the car and end up side down everyone will be really impressed. Brain Damage!! Anybody know what they are???

They are proof positive that you did get brain damage.

2K1 Vette close enough. Fuel Tank Shields. After all that work unless the car is upside down, you can lay down and see 4 sq inches of the them. Brain Damage! I guess she must be right!

I did mine as well but the pans are shaped different on the early cars. Here is a pic of me just getting started.... pretty easy to keep clean once you get them there
This was on the car....way to hard that way once you take them off they were easier.
Jim question for you on my car the tanks actually sit on these and the tanks are very very loose once these are removed....is this the same on your car or Janets?

Jim, Sorry about this late reply but the rear tank shields are just that and easily removed without any problems with the gas tanks. The forward ones are what holds the fuel tanks in the car. If you take all the bolts out of the forward shield the tank could and probably will, if full of gas fall out of the car. The filler hose and cross over hose and wiring and tubing is all that would be holding the tank in. That would not be a good thing. You were supposed to send me the length of your tail light screws. Did you forget?

Front bumper corners on a 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Barritz convertible. These also work well on a 4 post EZ lift (right about head level) once they are wrapped in thick foam (prevents head injuries when walking full gait).

frankly, I got a little queasy just thinking about it.
Are you sure Janet didn't coldcock you with a frying pan?
I am glad you're OK. But for the record, I believe the brain damage
was a pre-condition anyway.
How much more can you chrome underneath? Almost seems endless.

And a question for Jim. So if removing the bolts will let the fuel tanks drop how did you get the pans out without dropping the tanks? Or did you drop them. I would really like to do this at some point and any insight would be appreciated. TIA

Stockman, The rear shield is easily removed for polishing. You just remove the gas shield bolt and nut and it comes off. The rest of the bolts that are in the aluminum fuel tank strap should not be removed unless you have followed the drain down procedure in the service manual. I would recommend that someone wanting to high polish the fuel tank strap jack the car up and put it on jack stands like Iceburgh did or find a friend with a four post lift and do it with a hand buffer. Removal of the fuel tanks is not an easy task. JMHO and 2 cents. The only part that you can easily see from the exterior of the car is the outer portion of the rear shield. Of course if you do indoor shows you might want to use mirrors to show off the high polished fuel tank straps. We don't do indoor shows but I did the Red car and Janet wanted hers to be the same.

Thanks, much appreciated. They look great and since I did my Ti's I am thinking these will be in the future. Thanks. Oh! What did you use to get that mirror finish? I've seen shinny, yours are mirror like.
